 2022 RISE Summer Academy

The RISE Summer Academy application is now open! The Summer Academy is intended for American Indians and Alaska Natives (AIAN) who are preparing for the medical school application process.

Deadline to apply: April 15, 2022 by 5:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

Applications are beginning to come in and there are only 20 spots to fill - apply now!

2022 AIAN Medical School Application Workshop

The Northwest Native American Center of Excellence is excited to announce the 2022 American Indian/Alaska Native Medical School Application Workshop in collaboration with Oregon Health and Sciences University, Washington State University, University of Washington, and U.C. Davis School of Medicine. The workshop will be held virtually on Friday, May 6^th, 2022.

This workshop will comprehensively review the medical school admissions process, including: 1) practical tips for writing your personal statement and a 1:1 live feedback session, 2) requesting letters of recommendation, 3) mock medical school interviews in MMI and traditional formats, and 4) helpful tips for navigating the application process.

2022 Wy'east Post-Bac Program (conditional acceptance to OHSU, UC Davis SOM, or WSU COM)

The Wy’east Pathway is a FREE 10-month post-baccalaureate Pathway for AIAN learners who are passionate about becoming doctors and are on the brink of going to medical school. The goal is to prepare learners for the rigors of medical school and to provide cultural support and mentorship. The Pathway takes place at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, OR. Summer Health Professions Education Program Test Preparation Sessions

In an effort to improve access to information and resources for students interested in the health professions, the SHPEP National Program Office (NPO) will be hosting two upcoming webinars designed to assist students in preparing for the Dental Admission Test (DAT) and Optometry Admission Test (OAT). A session on the MCAT exam has been recorded and can be viewed at the link below.

The PPSC has worked with ThinkMCAT to set up a discounted summer MCAT prep course running from June 21st - September 1st. Registration is now open! You can register on Eventbrite here. 

Note: If you were enrolled in the ThinkMCAT course last semester (Spring 2019) you do not have to pay for this course; you will be automatically enrolled.

• Course Duration: June 21st - September 1st 

• Weekly Class Times: Sunday 10:00am - 12:00pm and Tuesday 6:00pm - 8:00pm

• Tuition Cost: $125 (payable via Eventbrite registration)

• Textbook Information: Purchasing the books for this course is the responsibility of the student. You have the choice of audio or written books.

• Audio books can be purchased via ThinkMCAT. 

• The written book covers all subjects except verbal and costs $75 (plus $15 for shipping). MCAT test preparation products from the AAMC are now available to help students prepare for the exam.

The practice exam is the first official full-length exam that offers scaled scoring information for the new exam. It is a 230-question practice exam that mirrors the actual MCAT exam in both length and functionality.
