CU Veterinary Medicine Symposium

Veterinary medicine offers a wide range of career opportunities. Veterinarians work with both small and large animals, in urban and rural settings, at universities, and in private practice.

At this symposium, professionals from diverse areas of veterinary medicine will share insights into their career paths, discussing how they made their choices and navigated their journeys.

The event will also cover application requirements and the admissions process for veterinary programs. It is recommended that attendees bring their Barnard ID.

Virtual Veterinary Medical School Admissions Fair

VMCAS invites pre-veterinary students to attend the annual Veterinary Medical School Admissions Fair on March 31, 2022 from 11:00am – 5:00pm Eastern Time. You can attend any time in those hours to chat live with veterinary school admissions officers from all over the world! Learn how to prepare and also speak with VMCAS application service representatives. Currently, there are 32 veterinary schools registered to participate.

The CU Pre-Veterinary Society will be holding the first general body meeting of the semester on Tuesday, February 1 at 8pm on Zoom. We'll be discussing this semester's events and activities, and we're excited to meet and get to know other pre-vet students. Event: Veterinary Medical Profession, Virtual Panel Discussion

 Columbia's annual panel discussion on the veterinary profession will take place on 10/21 at 7 pm. Students are invited to join panelists working in different areas of veterinary medicine for a discussion of how they chose and followed their various career paths. Also, part of the evening is a presentation by Jennifer Mailey at Cornell’s veterinary school on veterinary school admissions. CU Pre-Vet Society General Body Meeting

Our club focuses on creating a community of Barnard and Columbia students who are interested in pursuing veterinary careers post-college (or just love animals!). This year, we hope to host panels (with Pre-Vet club alumni now enrolled in vet school, as well as current veterinarians), potentially visit some of the veterinary schools in the Northeast, meet with admissions reps, and most importantly, plan animal-themed outings and bonding events.

VMCAS 2021 Application Launches January 22, 2020

The Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS) announces a change for the 2021 application cycle. Applicants will be able to start an application without needing to select a program. On January 22, 2020, applicants will be able to access other sections of the application to begin inputting data. Starting May 12, 2020, programs will become available to applicants and at this time applicants will be allowed to submit applications.

The Veterinary Medical Profession: A Panel Discussion

On Friday, November 22, 6:00 PM, students are invited to join panelists working in different areas of veterinary medicine for a discussion of how they chose and followed their varied career paths. The event will open with a presentation of the requirements and processes for applying to veterinary school led by Jennifer Mailey, Director of Admissions at Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine. This event will take place at Hamilton Hall, Room 602.
