The Cheng Lab is seeking a Research Technician to join our team at Corewell Health. This position is perfect for a recent/upcoming college graduate looking to gain hands-on research experience.

Corewell Health is Michigan’s largest not-for-profit health care system formed in 2014. It is comprised of eight hospitals, 145 outpatient locations, nearly 5,000 physicians and more than 38,000 employees. This position is located in the William Beaumont University Hospital campus in Royal Oak, near Detroit, Michigan. Corewell Health System is the exclusive teaching site for the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine and affiliated with Michigan State University college of Osteopathic Medicine and Wayne State University School of Medicine.

Our group uses magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) to discover biomarkers for many different types of cancers and diseases, including prostate cancer, lung cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease. Our projects include nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis of biofluid samples (blood, urine, etc.) and MRI of tissue samples from patients and animals, with the goal of developing less- or non-invasive diagnostic tools for clinical implementation.

The Research Technician will be an integral member of the team and make important contributions to many research activities. As such, responsibilities include:
1. Collect tissue samples and conduct NMR analysis of urine, blood, and/or cell media,
2. Process raw data to create analyzable spectra, and perform data analysis using various software and platforms,
3. Review medical records from clinical subjects to correlate spectral data with pathological findings and disease symptoms,
4. Conduct literature reviews, write manuscripts, and assist faculty in grant reviews,
5. Maintain regular communication with collaborators and facilitate efficient sample collection, delivery, and analysis,
6. Assist visiting medical students and exchange students with research and administrative processes, to
facilitate a smooth transition into the lab,
7. Perform administrative duties, which may include ordering supplies, updating IRBs, and scheduling lab equipment maintenance operations.

We are looking for a self-motivated, team-oriented, and energetic individual who seeks to conduct stimulating research prior to their future medical or graduate education. The ideal candidate will have a B.A. or B.S. degree, excellent writing and communication skills, and a personable demeanor. Prior research experience is a plus but not required, as we are happy to train the right person for the position.

In this role, you will learn about exciting new areas of medical research while playing an important and central role in a variety of projects. If interested, please submit your cover letter and resume to:
