 Summer 2026 ECHO Interpreter Program is a 9-week immersive experience designed for undergraduate, gap year, and post-baccalaureate pre-health students.

ECHO is a student-run free clinic in the Bronx, NY, dedicated to serving uninsured patients. This program offers a unique opportunity to:

• Enhance medical Spanish skills through real patient–doctor interactions.
• Connect with current medical students and gain insights into the operations of a student-run clinic.
• Contribute meaningfully to the health and well-being of the community.

Program Details:

• When: Saturdays, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, from June 6 to August 8, 2026 (closed July 4)
• Volunteers will be assigned 3–4 shifts during the term.
• Requirements: Fluency in Spanish; volunteers will interpret patient–doctor interactions in both English and Spanish.
• Format: Fully in-person at our Bronx clinic

Columbia Care Access Project (CCAP) is a student-run organization committed to harm reduction, care equity, and outreach-based medicine. We host regular street outreach walks, wound care clinics, and educational events to reduce stigma and increase access to compassionate care.

About the Summer Program
The CCAP Summer Volunteer Fellowship is a 10-week opportunity for premedical, undergraduate, and other health-interested students not enrolled in medical school to get hands-on experience with harm reduction and outreach-based care. Through education, service, and project-based learning, you’ll work alongside medical students to support a wonderful harm reduction program.

Funded Summer Opportunities at Michigan Medicine

Michigan Health Sciences Summer Institute (MHSSI)
MHSSI consists of two pre-health programs. Applications are now open and will close this Friday, February 6, 2026 at 11:59 PM EST.

Career Development Academy (CDA)
This 10-week residential summer program provides 20 pre-medical students with housing at U-M Ann Arbor, meals, and a stipend as they participate in a rigorous MCAT preparation course. Students receive mentorship and coaching from current University of Michigan Medical School students, resources such as Princeton Review and UWorld, and AAMC practice exams.

Undergraduate Research Academy (URA)
This 10-week residential summer program provides 20 to 22 students with housing at U-M Ann Arbor, meals, and a stipend as they conduct faculty-mentored research alongside Michigan Medicine faculty. The program culminates in a hospital-wide research symposium and presentation.

The Washington University School of Medicine Pediatric Student Research Program

 The Washington University School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, offers a Pediatric Student Research Program (PRSP), open to current full-time undergraduate (MUST be 18.).

Under the direction of three Washington University clinician-researchers, Ashley Steed, MD, PhD and Cliff Luke, PhD, PSRP was created with the purpose of introducing research to young investigators and to further their existing interest in research. The program includes seminars and mentored research experience during the eight-week scenario, June 8th, 2026 through July 31st, 2026. Selected participants work alongside experienced researchers. Opportunities range from bench to clinical to community-based research. Students participate in lab meetings to gain insight into the infrastructure of the research operation and to witness the collaborative process of sharing techniques, new endeavors, and successful investigative outcomes.

Applications are accepted from November 15th to January 31st.

NYU Langone PrMEIR Scholars Summer Intensive Program

Summer scholars in NYU Langone’s Program for Medical Education Innovations and Research (PrMEIR) take part in an eight-week research-focused course. The program is open to students in college through graduate school. Participants take part in a series of weekly workshops over the course of a summer that provides a window into career paths in the healthcare industry. 

Participants are expected to commit a minimum of 20 hours per week to the program, which includes attending mandatory Monday meetings, a weekly team meeting, and at least one professional development workshop.

Each participant is assigned to a team that works together to develop and complete a final project. More information about each team is available on the program website.

Summer Research Opportunity: M-SURE

Michigan Summer Undergraduate Research Experience - Diabetes & Metabolic Diseases

The Department of Molecular & Integrative Physiology is pleased to host 18 undergraduate students for a 12-week program of summer research related to diabetes and metabolic diseases. Domestic and foreign students currently enrolled at a degree granting university or college are eligible to apply, with preference given to those undergraduates interested in a career in diabetes-related research. Funding is from the

NIH, Caswell Diabetes Institute, Taubman Institute, and the Michigan Nutrition and Obesity Research Center.

Each student will be matched, based on their interests and background, to a basic or clinical laboratory involved in nationally recognized research related to diabetes and diabetes-related complications such as insulin signaling and insulin resistance, adipocyte biology, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and neuronal control of food intake and energy expenditure.

There will be a research forum in which fellows will present their work, as well as a noon lecture series and research seminars.

• Requirements: The Next-Generation Cancer Internship Program, funded by the American Cancer Society, offers students meaningful, firsthand exposure to cancer research. Summer Research: SUNY Upstate Medical University SURF

The Research Fellowship (SURF) programs are 10-weeks summer programs that would run from Monday, June 1 - Friday, August 7, 2026. The program offers participants a $6,200 stipend for the period along with free university housing. In addition to our traditional SURF program, we offer specialty SURF programs including SURF Physician-scientist program (SURF PS), SURF Cancer Research Program (SURF CR) and SURF Health Science Program (SURF HS). All of our summer programs end with an opportunity to present summer research at a poster symposium. Requirements 
Applicants to the program should be undergraduate students in good academic standing, who will be between their junior and senior years during the summer of 2026, and are majors in chemistry, biology, or a related field. Applicants must have a strong interest in pursuing a Ph.D. degree in biomedical research or one of the other degrees for the specific programs.  
 
Selection Criteria
The main criteria for the selection of fellows will be personal scholarship, academic excellence, and the match of applicant interests with those of participating SUNY Upstate Medical University biomedical faculty members. International students who currently have a J-1 or F-1 visa, and who are already attending school in the United States, are eligible to apply.

Summer Research Opportunity: University of Michigan Frankel Cardiovascular Center

Clinical Opportunity: Project Healthcare

Project Healthcare (PHC) is offered in Manhattan at NYC Health+Hospitals/Bellevue, and in Brooklyn at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn. PHC volunteers are given the opportunity to explore the reality of a career in medicine by providing patient support by carrying out such tasks as talking with patients, supporting them, making phone calls on their behalf, monitoring their length of stay, and helping their emotional and physical wellness within the purview of a volunteer. In addition to physician attendings, residents, RNs, and NPs, our volunteers engage in meaningful conversation with hospital janitorial staff, patient care technicians, behavioral health assistants, and certified nursing assistants. The true cornerstone of the PHC program is, however, patient advocacy. Both Bellevue and NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn have historically served, and continue to serve, those whose medical diagnoses are complicated by homelessness, food insecurity, undocumented immigration status, and mental health crises. Through hands on experience in one of New York City’s level 1 Trauma Centers, our volunteers are exposed to numerous aspects of patient care and advocacy while working closely with clinical staff.

In addition to the Emergency Department, which includes adult and pediatric emergency departments, volunteers typically rotate through the Trauma Center, Social Work, Nursing, Operating Room, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, EMT Ambulance Ride Alongs, Safety Net Clinic, Psychiatry, and Triage. Note, rotations vary year-to-year and by location.

Founded in 1981 by one of the fathers of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Lewis Goldfrank, our program has seen over 90% of its alumni achieve careers in medicine. Many past participants have gained acceptance into some of the most prestigious medical institutions in the nation (including our own), citing their experiences in Project Healthcare as pivotal to their success. For our volunteers, it is often the individual patient interactions that are most impactful. In the fast-paced, often chaotic emergency department, patients greatly benefit from their conversations with our volunteers as well.

The application for Project Healthcare Summer Volunteer Program 2026 is now open and will officially close on February 1, 2026. The application requires the submission of a personal statement, a current CV or resume, and two letters of recommendation, and a payment of $10-$15. Weill Cornell Medicine Summer Research Fellowship

 The Weill Cornell Medicine Summer Research Fellowship (SRF) 2026 application is now available. 

The Weill Cornell Medicine Summer Research Fellowship (WCMSRF) is designed to provide 25-27 premedical students with experiential research training, meaningful insights into the field of medicine, and enhanced knowledge of the conditions and policies impacting the health of traditionally underserved populations. By engaging in laboratory or clinical research, under the supervision of a faculty member, the WCMSRF participants learn how to investigate a specific research question. Participants are thereby provided with a research training experience allowing them to acquire investigative techniques that can be later applied as they pursue their medical education. The program's didactic curriculum has several themes. There are content delivery around common public health issues including healthcare for the under and uninsured; healthcare disparities; research basics; a financial aid presentation and practical advice from medical students on the medical school application process and preparing for the MCAT. In addition to these, participants engage with a wide variety of physicians in career panel discussions including primary care, pediatrics, neurology, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, radiology, emergency medicine, and internal medicine. The highlight of the curriculum is a panel discussion populated by diversity and admissions deans from NY medical schools addressing the question “What are medical schools looking for?” 

With the resumption of in-person program in 2022, the program also provides each participant with an opportunity to shadow a physician. As research training is the primary mission of the program, shadowing opportunities are limited.

Summer Research Opportunity: St. Jude Pediatric Oncology Education (POE)

Pediatric Oncology Education (POE) Program. The program offers a unique opportunity for pre-doctoral students preparing for careers in the biomedical sciences, medicine, and pharmacy to gain biomedical and oncology research experience. Students participate in basic or clinical oncology research, a core lecture series designed specifically for them, as well as research and clinical conferences. All participants make a PowerPoint presentation on their research project on our core lecture series. They also submit a project report written in the style of a journal in which their faculty mentor publishes.

A primary goal of the POE program is to encourage highly qualified students to pursue a career in cancer research, either as a clinical scientist or laboratory-based research scientist. Our St. Jude Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences offers training in leading-edge scientific fields paired with unique mentoring in the St. Jude clinical experience. Highly motivated POE students may also consider applying to the St. Jude Graduate School upon completion of their undergraduate degree to further pursue their research and career interests.

POE medical students spend a minimum of 10 weeks in the program. The minimum tenure requirement for all others is 11 weeks. All POE applicants must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.40 (on a 4.0 scale) in math and science (biology, chemistry, and physics) and at least a 3.40 overall. Program participants will receive a $600/week subsistence allowance. Fully furnished group housing will be provided at no cost for non-local participants.

All POE program applicants must already have research experience and be full time students at a US school at the time they apply. Applicants must be United States citizens, non-citizen nationals, or possess a visa permitting permanent residence in the United States (required by the funding agency). Participants must be at least 18 and have completed at least their sophomore year of college when they begin the program.

Correctional Health Services Population Health Internship

 Role information:

Correctional Health Services provides comprehensive healthcare for all individuals housed in the New York City jail system on Rikers Island. Summer interns will support important population health projects that aim to improve overall health outcomes. Project areas may include examining HIV-related outcomes, tracking viral hepatitis program data, and assisting with tracking age-appropriate preventative care programming. Interns will also have opportunities to shadow medical and social service providers and other interdisciplinary correctional health staff.

Requirements:

• June – August 2025
• Time commitment: At least three days per week on-site (on Rikers Island)
• Location: Rikers Island (students must be able to travel to Rikers Island – public transportation is available)
• Fingerprinting and a background check are required as part of the Rikers Island clearance process
• This opportunity is best suited for rising Juniors or Seniors who are pre-med, pre-health, or have an interest in public health
• There are no academic prerequisites; however, students should be willing to learn quickly and to be able to work independently
• The internship is unpaid, but CHS is happy to support any applications for external funding

Summer Research Opportunity: CLIMB UP at the University at Buffalo

The Collaborative Learning and Integrated Mentoring in the Biosciences Undergraduate Program is a paid summer research opportunity where we match students with faculty mentors whose research aligns with their interests. Accepted students work full-time in a lab to gain hands on research experience. The program ends with students presenting their research with an oral presentation and a poster symposium! 

The benefits of being accepted into CLIMB UP:

• Research. Get hands-on research experience during the 9-week program with a participating faculty member whose interests are complimentary to your own. The summer will culminate with you and your peers presenting your work at the Summer Research Day.

Tufts Summer Research Experience: Building Diversity in Biomedical Sciences for Undergraduates (Info Session 1/8)

Building Diversity in Biomedical Sciences provides a mentored, 10-week research intensive experience for 16-20 undergraduates who are interested in pursuing PhD or MD/PhD training upon completion of the baccalaureate degree. The program will run this year from May 26-August 1, 2025. Students receive a salary of $5,200 (before taxes) as well as housing and the cost of transportation to and from the Boston area at the start and conclusion of the program are both covered. Funded by the NIH, BDBS seeks to promote diversity and inclusion in biomedical sciences by providing research and career development opportunities for underrepresented groups in the field (as defined by the NIH). Application deadline is February 1, 2025.

University of Michigan M-SURE Program Application Open

The 2025 M-SURE program will support 16 undergraduate trainees for a summer research experience with mentors from an outstanding pool of faculty investigators engaged in cutting-edge basic and clinical research related to diabetes, endocrinology, and metabolic diseases.

The funding amount for 2025 will be $7200, pre-tax, for twelve weeks of full-time work from May 27 through August 15. The start and/or end date of the fellowship may be shifted slightly to accommodate overlap with the academic year at home institutions, if necessary. Students who are currently enrolled at any degree granting university or college are eligible to apply. Preference is given to those students interested in a career in research. Although federal funding is limited to U.S. citizens or permanent residents, we will have a few slots available for international students.

Each student is matched, based on their interests, to a laboratory participating in M-SURE, led by a faculty mentor of the Molecular & Integrative Physiology Department and/or the Caswell Diabetes Institute at the University of Michigan. Faculty are all committed to undergraduate training and use broad approaches to improve our understanding of obesity, diabetes, endocrinology, and metabolic diseases.

 

To enhance our M-SURE trainees’ experience, there will be a weekly lecture series highlighting the physiology of diabetes, endocrinology & metabolism. Additional presentations will focus on how to develop a career in biomedical research, and responsible conduct of research. Trainees will give a final oral presentation of their work at the end of summer Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium. We are excited to provide training and mentorship opportunities in basic/foundational and translational research to help develop the next generation of highly accomplished biomedical scholars interested in biomedical research and discovery.

Summer Research Opportunity: WUSTL Pediatric Student Research Program

The Washington University School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, offers a Pediatric Student Research Program (PRSP), open to current full-time undergraduate and graduate students as well as high school seniors.

Under the direction of three Washington University clinician-researchers, David Wilson, MD, PhD, Ashley Steed, MD, PhD and Cliff Luke, PhD, PSRP was created with the purpose of introducing research to young investigators and to further their existing interest in research. The program includes seminars and mentored research experience during the eight-week scenario, June 2nd, 2025 through July 25th, 2025. Selected participants work alongside experienced researchers. Opportunities range from bench to clinical to community-based research. Students participate in lab meetings to gain insight into the infrastructure of the research operation and to witness the collaborative process of sharing techniques, new endeavors, and successful investigative outcomes.

 

Applications are accepted from December 15^th to February 15^th.
