Meet the Physicians - Understanding the Application Process Event

Curious about medical admissions processes? Register for Meet the Physicians -Understanding the Application Process on August 2nd. Panelists will hail from Allopathic Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, Naturopathic Medicine and Podiatric Medicine and will discuss how students become competitive applicants for their programs of study. Topics will range from academic preparedness (grades, pre-reqs and tests) to personal preparedness (communication skills, volunteering/shadowing or service activities).

Panelists will take questions from the chat as well as questions submitted in advance of the session. At the time of registrations, attendees will be given the opportunity to submit their question in advance. 

 

With registration, a copy of the recording will be available after the live session is complete.

 

Moderated by Dr. Holly Waters, DO, MMEL. Assistant Professor, Osteopathic Principles and Practice; OPP Predoctoral Fellowship Co-Director at Nova Southeastern University Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Osteopathic Medicine Resources Re: COVID-19

The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) has compiled resources for prospective applicants in their COVID-19 Resource page. Please note that this page is being continuously updated in real time. They intend for this web-page to be home to all admissions requirement changes due to COVID-19 at each of the Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine. 
So far, there has been one change to the application. AACOM has added a question to the 2020-2021 AACOMAS Application prompting applicants to describe how COVID-19 has impacted their pathway to medical school. The question is open ended and allows applicants up to 2500 characters for them to describe any academic, personal, financial or professional barriers that COVID-19 may have presented for them.

Exploring Osteopathic Medicine - April 23

Exploring Osteopathic Medicine is a virtual event intended for pre medical students interested in learning more about osteopathic medicine. Join the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) for this in-depth look at the osteopathic medical profession and what it means to be a DO. This virtual event will include panel discussions with live questions and answers from current medical students, practicing physicians, and admissions representatives. AACOM will give an overview of AACOMAS, the primary application to osteopathic medical school, offer tips and tricks on how to ace the AACOMAS application. AACOM is thrilled to welcome Dr. Jen Caudle as a speaker for the event. Dr. Jen is a board certified family medicine physician known for her appearances on local and national news networks including the TODAY Show, the Dr. Oz Show, CNN, Steve Harvey Show, and many others.

On Thursday September 26th, students from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNE COM) will be hosting National Osteopathic Night Out at several locations in the Northeast.  National Osteopathic Night Out is an event put on through Pre-SOMA, SOMA (Student Osteopathic Medical Association) and osteopathic medical schools to connect pre-medical students with current osteopathic medical students..

DO Education Conference for Students

The University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine is pleased to announce that we will be hosting a Pre-SOMA conference this year on Saturday, September 28th on our Biddeford campus in Maine. This event will run from 8 AM to 4 PM. The theme of this conference is “So you want to be a DOctor?”. We here at UNE COM are excited to host students, advisors, colleagues from osteopathic medical schools, and guests.

RowanSOM Campus Tour - 8/15/19

Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (RowanSOM) will be hosting a campus tour on Thursday, August 15, 2019 from 1-3pm. This will be the last on-campus event of the summer where students and parents can learn about exciting changes, growth and expansion taking place at RowanSOM which will enhance the student experience and outcomes.

RowanSOM's campus tour is a great opportunity for prospective students to visit our campus and see how we D.O.! Students can register today to learn about our new integrative curriculum, see a demonstration of Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment, hear from a student panel, tour our campus facilities, and speak to admissions reps one on one.

New Resource: Choose DO Explorer

The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) has launched the Choose DO Explorer, the Association’s first online search tool created to help prospective medical students and prehealth advisors more readily find information about admission to osteopathic medical colleges.

The Explorer provides information on school locations, dual degree options, institutional campus settings, mean overall GPA and MCAT scores for enrolled students, and application deadlines, among other relevant college details. Access is free (no subscription required!), and prospective applicants to osteopathic schools are encouraged to use this new centralized database to learn more about programs.

RowanSOM Open House - April 6

Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (RowanSOM) welcomes prospective students, their families, and friends to join their Annual Open House on Saturday, April 6, 2019, from 12:00 to 4:00pm, on the Stratford, NJ campus, 20 minutes outside of Philadelphia.

Attendees will get the opportunity to hear about the admissions and interview process, speak with faculty and alumni, tour the campus, learn about RowanSOM's new curriculum, observe live osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) demonstrations, and more. The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) invites prospective applicants to join an online Medical School Fair on Thursday, January 17, 2019, from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Eastern time. National Osteopathic Night Out

Pre-SOMA (Student Osteopathic Medical Association) will sponsor a nationwide Osteopathic Night Out on January 7, 2019! This is an opportunity for prospective students to enjoy a casual, in-person Q&A with current osteopathic medical students in cities all across the US, including in a number of cities in the New York Metro area.
