Opportunity: The Brown University Gateways Program

Application deadline is June 1. Classes begin July 2018.

Gateways to Medicine, Healthcare and Research at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University provides a rigorous academic program that prepares students for either careers in these fields or doctoral-level training. The program offers either a Master of Science in Medical Sciences, or a Certificate in Medical Science. Benefits include:
  • A small class size that ensures individualized attention.
  • A robust curriculum on par with the first year of an Ivy League medical school.
  • Career mentoring and advising.
  • Access to Brown University facilities and resources.
Classes begin in July for master's degree candidates. Encourage your advisees to learn more about this program and apply to meet the June 1 deadline.

We look forward to helping your students achieve their career goals.

Sincerely,

Gowri Anandarajah, MD, FAAFP
Gateways Program Director
Professor of Family Medicine and Medical Sciences, Clinician Educator

Opportunity: Atlantis programs this summer and University Partnerships for next year

Dear Thea,

We wanted to touch base with you as summer approaches. If you have students who have not filled their summers with opportunities that will prepare them for pre-health school applications, The Atlantis Fellowship is an option to consider. We are still accepting applications for programs ranging from 2 to 8 weeks.

With heavy, specialized credit loads, we know how difficult it is for your students to find time to get a significant volume of shadowing hours. We also know how difficult it can be to travel abroad while fulfilling pre-health curricula. Our hope is to help your students get both shadowing hours and to give them an opportunity to better understand international healthcare systems.
Atlantis Fellows get 20 hours/week of ethical, AAMC-compliant shadowing hours in an international healthcare system, experience a new culture, and connect with future colleagues in the medical professions. There is no application fee, and the application can be found here. We have programs at the beginning, middle and end of summer in countries such as Italy, Spain, Greece, Hungary, and Ecuador.

While the majority of our Fellows independently sign up for programs, we also have custom group Fellowship options available for universities that wish to bring their own group.
Custom programs, in the past, have allowed for students to get credit, take classes while abroad, and still get all of the benefits that a student attending individually would receive. For more information on custom group programs, please schedule a call with me using this link: https://calendly.com/john-wulsin.

Kind regards,

John Wulsin
Institutional Relations Manager

Announcement: New Traffic Rules for 2019 Application Cycle from AAMC Newsletter

New protocols (“traffic rules”) have been approved to guide how medical school admissions officers and applicants should interact and share information during the medical school application cycle. The protocols go into effect for the 2019 admissions cycle. The protocols for admissions officers and for applicants were approved by the AAMC Council of Deans Administrative Board this week, following feedback from the admissions community—represented by the GSA Steering Committee, the GSA Committee on Admissions, and the new Ad Hoc Working Group on Admissions Tools and Resources.
