2021 Committee Application Open

Prospective summer 2021 applicants to medical and dental schools are invited to begin the 2021 Committee Application. Students and alumnae are eligible to participate in order to receive a Committee Letter of Evaluation from Barnard. The application is live, and will be due on January 25, 2021 for first-time applicants. Prospective applicants should be sure to review the Committee Process Overview before beginning an application. Committee Process Overview - 10/28

Planning to apply for medical or dental school in summer 2021? Attend Beyond Barnard's Committee Process Overview to consider your application readiness and learn more about applying for a Committee letter. The workshop will take place on Wednesday, October 28, 6:00 - 7:00 PM Eastern, and will feature a presentation as well as time for Q&A. 

This event will be recorded, and all prospective applicants are encouraged to participate. Register here! Please register even if you are unable to attend live so that you can be added to our Committee application mailing list.

Committee Process Overview - October 28

 All prospective 2021-22 applicants to medical or dental school are encouraged to attend our Fall 2020 Committee Process Overview on Wednesday, October 28, 6:00 PM (via Zoom). 

In advance of the opening of the Committee application, this event will provide information about assessing your application readiness, the components and timeline of the Committee process, and tips for planning your application year. We'll have time for Q&A, and the event will be recorded and shared via Beyond Barnard's YouTube channel.

Barnard 2020 Committee Application

Calling all prospective applicants to medical and dental schools: if you plan to apply during summer 2020 (seeking admission to professional schools in 2021), now is the time to begin Barnard's Committee Letter of Evaluation application process.

A Committee letter is an institutional letter of evaluation that is prepared for current students and alumnae of Barnard College in order to holistically present your achievements in academics, research, clinical activities, and service to professional school admissions committees. We ask that all prospective applicants who seek a Committee letter submit an application that will include information about your goals, motivations, and background.

Barnard's 2020 Committee application is now live! To access the application, please go to Prehealth Advising Resources in Handshake and click the document labeled "Committee Application Access - 2020." You'll also find more resources in Handshake, including an overview of our Committee process, important dates for the cycle, and a link to our Application Year Overview: Part I webinar, which describes the Committee process in full.

The deadlines to submit a Committee application are:

• First-time applicants: February 9, 2020, 11:59 PM Eastern
• Reapplicants*: March 5, 2020, 11:59 PM Eastern

*You are considered a reapplicant if you have previously had a Barnard Committee letter submitted to application services on your behalf. All other applicants are considered first-time applicants, even if they have completed some or all of a previous Committee application. 

2020 Committee Application Update

Attention prospective summer 2020 applicants to medical or dental school: Barnard's 2020 Committee application will open in January 2020! We are excited to launch our new application system, and will share specific dates and deadlines beginning the week of January 6, 2020. Because we will be starting the application process slightly later than usual, Parts I and II of the application will be available to all applicants at the same time.

If you are interested in getting a head start on the application, please know that as of today you will find the prompts for the essay questions for Part II of the application, as well as the format for the Preprofessional Preparation section of the application in the Prehealth Advising Resources article in Handshake. (See the attachment titled "Committee Application 2020 Preview.")

Please keep in mind that all applicants for a 2020 Committee letter will be asked to submit their responses to these questions via our new application platform, so if you’re able to complete your responses in advance, hold onto them until you receive the early January opening announcement. You’ll be able to copy and paste your responses into the appropriate sections of the online application. I believe that you all will find our new application system very easy to navigate, and am looking forward to working with you in the coming spring and summer!

Register for Application Year Overview Sessions Next Week

Prospective applicants to medical and dental schools are welcome to attend our Application Year Overview: Part I, offered in two sessions next week:

Application Year Overview: Part I (in-person) | Monday, November 18 at 6:00 PM

Application Year Overview: Part II (live webinar) | Tuesday, November 19 at 6:00 PM

These sessions will cover the same information, so you need only plan to attend one (and the webinar will be recorded, in case anyone has conflicts with both times). We’ll cover two main topics: 1) assessing your readiness to apply to professional programs and 2) how to apply for a Committee Letter of Evaluation. These sessions are especially relevant for any prospective applicants to medical or dental school who plan to submit their professional school applications in summer 2020.

Please note that we'll begin the Committee application later this semester, as we are transitioning away from AdviseStream/Inspire to use a new application system.

Reminder: Committee Application, Part I Due Nov. 15

Part I of Barnard’s Committee Application is due on November 15, 2018 (for first-time applicants). If you plan to apply to medical or dental school in summer 2019, please make sure to:

• Set your intended matriculation year to 2020 in AdviseStream
• Review the Application Process and Application Timeline sections of the prehealth website
• View the Application Year Overview: Part I webinar in the Cycle 2019 Resources folder of your AdviseStream Advising Resource Library
• Submit Part I by the November 15th deadline (11:59 PM Eastern)

The Declaration of Intent formally acknowledges your intent to participate in Cycle 2016 and receive a Committee Letter of Evaluation for graduate schools of the health profession. The form will include instructions for first time applicants and re-applicants, as well as access to the Pre-Health Portfolio. 

ALL Cycle 2016 applicants are required to complete the Declaration of Intent form by January 25th, 2016.
