Columbia University Pathways to Medicine Workshop Series: Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Sports Day Orthopedics
The Columbia PM&R series, in partnership with Columbia Orthopedics, is hosting an interdepartmental workshop tailored specifically for pre-medical students. This event will be held on September 8th, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Columbia University Vagelos Education Center, located at 104 Haven Ave, New York, NY 10032.
This workshop is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the key aspects of Orthopedics and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R). Throughout the day, there will be opportunities to explore common sports-related injuries and operations, gain insights into the types of injuries commonly seen in athletes, and learn about the surgical procedures used to treat them.
In addition to the educational sessions, the workshop will conclude with a Q&A session where you can learn more about opportunities for shadowing, volunteering, and research.

The Future Leaders in Surgery Symposium for Underrepresented Students (FLXSUS) is a virtual series designed to bridge the gap between underrepresented undergraduates and surgical fields. Each symposium offers comprehensive exposure to specialties such as orthopedics, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, and plastic surgery.
High school and undergraduate students are highly encouraged to attend. Attendees will have access to extraordinary surgical cases, mentorship from attending faculty, residents, and medical students, and insights into groundbreaking research from renowned leaders. Participants will also receive a certificate and have the opportunity to connect with physicians and peers.

Columbia University Emergency Medical Service (CUEMS) is hosting information sessions for sponsorship and membership for Fall 2024! CUEMS is Columbia's student-operated, New York State-certified, basic-life support (BLS) volunteer ambulance corps. CUEMS provides free prehospital emergency medical care to Columbia University's Morningside Heights Campus and the surrounding area, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We have the same capabilities as any 911 BLS ambulance. Sponsorship and membership opportunities are open to Columbia University students.
Sponsorship refers to the process for those who do not yet have their EMT-B certification but want to obtain one. Those selected for CUEMS sponsorship are able to obtain their EMT-B certification at no cost through a course offered by CodeOne, Inc. Students who participate in sponsorship are expected to take the NYS EMT-B exam upon completion of the course.
Membership refers to the process of joining CUEMS. Membership is only open to those who already have an EMT-B certification in the state of NY and a valid U.S. driver’s license.
To apply for sponsorship or membership, attending an information session is mandatory. Please be on time to the information sessions. Doors will close strictly at 8:30 P.M. and late arrivals will not be welcome.

The Research Study Coordinator will support several research grants within the department of Preventive Medicine under the direction of Dr. Ha Ngan (Milkie) Vu. The Research Study Coordinator will assist in administrative and research duties for any of the above programs, with particular focus on conducting focus groups and semi-structured interviews, recruiting participants, processing participant payments, data management, quantitative data analysis, and qualitative or mixed-methods data analysis. There are also opportunities for co-authoring manuscripts and support grant writing. Some evening and weekend work may be required due to our work with community partners. The position is hybrid with three days in the office. Our office is based out of the Feinberg School of Medicine in downtown Chicago. This is a 1-year term position with the opportunity for renewal based on performance and funding availability. Due to the nature of our research, native fluency in spoken and written Vietnamese is desired, but not required.

GET-UPP Program Application Open
The Gerald E. Thomson Undergraduate Pre-Medical Program (GET-UPP) is a free pre-medical mentorship program sponsored by Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, designed to supplement students’ academic trajectory as they pursue medical school admission.
GET-UPP serves undergraduate students from Columbia University, Barnard College, and the City University of New York schools. Advisory support, mentoring, clinical shadowing, and other programming takes places at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
