Job Opportunity: Research Staff Assistant, Zuckerman Institute Lomvardas Lab

The Mortimer B. Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute at Columbia University brings together researchers from different scientific disciplines to transform our understanding of the mind and brain. In this highly interactive research environment, laboratories work together to gain critical insights into human health by exploring how the brain develops, performs, endures, and recovers. The Zuckerman Institute is housed in the Jerome L. Greene Science Center, an architectural masterpiece on Columbia University’s new Manhattanville campus.

The Lomvardas lab at Zuckerman Institute is seeking a full-time research technician that will assist a postdoctoral fellow with projects related to the expression of mouse olfactory receptors and the culturing of mouse olfactory neurons. Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform molecular biology techniques, dissections, tissue sectioning, and immunohistochemistry, directed by the PI and Senior Researchers.
  • Maintenance of mouse colony.
  • Work collaboratively with graduate students, other research assistants as well as post-docs and MDs in keeping careful records of the work performed during experiments, communicate well, and present to the group.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have a science-related Bachelor’s degree. A minimum of six (6) months of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Prior research laboratory experience is highly desired, including work with rodent models.
Experience with molecular biology, tissue culture, and/or mouse colony management is preferred.
Lab experience is preferred but a post-baccalaureate candidate building skills prior to medical or graduate school might find this position productive and rewarding. Proficiency with programming and electronics is a plus. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills are essential.
