The Synthetic Regeneration and Systems Physiology Laboratory at Columbia University is seeking a motivated mouse Research Technician to work in mouse genomics of wound healing. The Mouse Research Technician will support research studying the role of various cell groups, including immune cells, in mouse wound healing and regeneration. Laboratory experience in molecular biology, mouse breeding, and genotyping is strongly preferred. We have developed several innovative, unpublished platforms to understand tissue regeneration at organ scale. The candidate will work in close collaboration with the Columbia Stem Cell Initiative, the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the Columbia Genome Center. Results of the research will be published in one or more scientific publications targeting high impact peer-reviewed journals.
Responsibilities will include:
1. Mouse breeding and maintenance
2. Mouse surgery assistance
3. Operate industrial washers and autoclaves: load, run, monitor, and record sterilization cycles; ensure proper pH balance
4. Inspect glassware and lab equipment for cleanliness and damage; discard or repair items as needed.
5. Pre-soak, scrub, rinse, dry, and polish glassware manually when required; assemble/disassemble setups for cleaning.
6. Maintain cleanliness and organization of glassware washing and sterilization areas. Ensure all work surfaces, sinks, racks, trays are kept sanitized.
7. Document usage of supplies and detergents; restock cleaning agents, autoclave tape, filters, etc.
8. Support laboratory operations by tracking ordering, logging orders and storing the in their respective spaces in the lab; including mail and other delivered items.
9. Perform routine maintenance of washers, autoclaves, and related equipment: cleaning filters, checking gaskets, lubricating parts; report malfunctions.
10. Follow safety protocols: proper use of PPE (gloves, eye protection, lab coat), handling chemicals, biologicals, or hazardous materials; dispose of waste properly.
11. Maintain sterilization records to ensure compliance.
12. Assist with training new staff or students in glassware cleaning and autoclave procedures.
13. Perform general laboratory cleaning and organizational tasks.
14. Track billing details and submit required documentation.
15. Order and maintain laboratory supply inventory.
16. Other duties as assigned.
17. Effectively write and communicate research materials.
Minimum Qualifications:
• The candidate must have an associate degree.
• Candidate should preferable be knowledgeable or experienced in handling rodents.
• Capable of working in teams to design and execute experiments, interpret data, and identify appropriate follow-up strategies.
• Excellent project management skills. Ability to multitask and work within timelines.
