The Section for Tobacco, Alcohol, and Drug Use within the Department of Population Health (DPH) at NYU Grossman School of Medicine is looking to hire a per diem student research intern. The student research intern will work on a federally funded study at Bellevue Hospital, as well as two pilot studies at NYU Langone, all focused on behavioral interventions and harm reduction strategies for smoking cessation. The position includes working on participant study recruitment, and post-recruitment tasks such as collecting follow-up surveys, saliva, and data management.
Job Responsibilities:
- Recruitment and enrollment – conduct participant screening and recruitment at Bellevue Hospital, conduct participant screening over the phone and/or in participant homes, conduct respiratory function tests for participants, place at-home air monitors in participant homes
- Post-recruitment – administer research surveys and capture data in the study’s electronic data system, perform in-person/remote saliva tests, coordinate drop-off and pick-up for air monitors in participant homes
- Data management – collect patient information from electronic health record (EHR) and other data sources for the research project
- Project knowledge – demonstrate thorough knowledge of the research study and procedures, maintain high research ethics and remain up to date on institutional review board trainings
Qualifications:
Education and Training
- Must be enrolled in a degree program in a relevant field (e.g., Public Health, Health Communications, Health Science, Biology)
- Proficiency in using various Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook
- Familiar with Internet applications
Experience and Skills
- Ability to work with a team environment as well as independently
- Demonstrated ability to organize tasks and meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills and commitment to continuous learning
- Experience with research studies involving human subjects
