Pre-Health Walk-In Hours for Program Filing

Are you pre-health and have questions about the course requisites? Not sure how to best sequence your courses or fit all your pre-health courses into your schedule? 

Dean Cohen will be holding walk-in hours during program filing on the following dates and times:

Friday, April 15th: 1:00-2:00pm
Thursday, April 21st: 11:30am-12:30pm
Monday, April 25th: 3:00-4:00pm

Please come stop by! As a friendly note, these walk-in hours are intended for course selection-related questions only. If you have questions about gaining experience, strengthening your pre-health portfolio or assessing your readiness to apply, you are encouraged to schedule a 30-min appointment with Dean Cohen. 

If you are a new to pre-health at Barnard, please come attend our upcoming (and last one for the semester!) Pre-Health Overview Session on April 22nd at 12:00noon. Click here to register.

Dean Jim Runsdorf will be speaking about a range of scholarship opportunities, including the Rhodes, Marshall, Gates, Luce, Schwarzman, Mitchell, and Soros Scholarships

Peer Tutors Wanted!

Apply to be a Peer Tutor
The Barnard Dean of Studies (DOS) Office and the Academic Success and Enrichment Program (ASEP) are seeking Barnard sophomores, juniors, or seniors to serve as tutors in our Peer-to-Peer Learning programs.  DOS and ASEP Peer Tutors are paid $15/hour, for an average of two to four hours per week, to meet individually or in small groups (no more than three students) with fellow students who have requested a tutor for support in a particular class.  Tutors are also paid for approximately one hour per month of training/in-service.

Subjects where tutors are most in demand include:  Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, and Foreign Language, but other subjects may also be needed depending on student requests, so you are encouraged to apply even if the subject you want to tutor does not appear on this list.

Qualifications:
- Successful completion of the Barnard course(s) (or equivalent) for which you are applying to tutor
- Empathy, patience, clarity, and kindness
- Commitment to academic integrity
- Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status
- Experience as a peer tutor preferred but not required

Pre-Health Overview: April Sessions

Are you considering a career in the health profession? Do you have questions about being a pre-health student at Barnard and want to learn more? Are you interested in learning about the resources and advising support our office provides? Whether you are a first year or a senior, it's never too late to start exploring the health professions.

We invite you to come to a Pre-Health Overview Session to learn about what it means to be a pre-health student at Barnard College. These small group sessions will serve to provide you with an overview of:
  • Academic Preparation 
  • Gaining Meaningful Experience 
  • Letters of Recommendation
  • Committee Letter of Evaluation
  • Resources and more!

Friday, April 22nd from 12:00-1:00pm

All sessions will take place in the Deans Office Conference Room, Milbank 105 (check in at the front desk)

Pre-Health Overview Sessions will be held throughout the year. To sign up for a session, please click here. These sessions are intended to serve as your "first" pre-health advising appointment. We ask that you attend an overview session prior to scheduling an individual advising appointment with Dean Cohen, Associate Dean for Pre-Health Professions Advising.
