Event: CU Global Brigades Info Session

Global Brigades is a student-led sustainable organization, whose goal is to empower the underserved communities around the world. The students volunteer abroad to help improve the quality of life and the environment with the holistic approach. Global Brigades have different chapters like Medical, Dental, Public Health, Environmental, Water, Microfinance, and Business Brigades. In the past years, Columbia University chapter have helped development in Honduras, Panama and Ghana. We also volunteer in our local community, Harlem, helping conduct blood pressure at the health fairs and empower community members to take care of their health!

We will we holding an info session this Sunday, on September 27th at 8:00pm.

  • discuss your questions live with AACOM representatives, med school admissions teams, current residents, and more
  • get to know the programs and decide which medical school is right for you

Event: Discover Nursing Virtual Fair

Now, more than ever, the world needs nurses! Register today for the free Discover Nursing Virtual Fair on Wed. Oct. 7 (10am-8pm EST) and chat with over 100 nursing schools! This event provides you the opportunity to speak with admissions teams, faculty, nurses, and students.  

During the fair, prospective students will be able to:

  • Ask questions about the nursing profession, admission requirements, prerequisites, elements of a strong application and more
  • Connect with multiple schools at once
  • Explore which nursing school is a right fit for them

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, "in 2018, there were more than 4 million jobs in 5 nurse occupations.    It's a weekly live webinar about a high yield MCAT topic. It's short, sweet, and packed with valuable insight into both the topic at hand and how it's tested on the MCAT. While we are in the process of developing these materials, we are offering the webinar for free. Consider yourself a pilot student for a future Cambridge Coaching MCAT course, or textbook, or self-study platform (only the future can tell). All we ask in exchange is that you keep coming, participate in Q & A, share your feedback, and let friends know about this resource. Career Insights Event 9/30: Healthcare & Healthcare Administration

Interested in the wide array of roles available in healthcare, and healthcare administration?

Barnard alumnae will share insights and advice on paths to leadership and the importance of women in healthcare today especially during COVID-19. The panelists will discuss how their education led them to varied roles including human resources/talent management, education, and dentistry. Moderator: Wanda Cole-Frieman, SVP Talent Acquisition, CommonSpirit Health For the past two years, Wanda Cole-Frieman, VP, Talent Acquisition, has been a member of the Human Resources leadership team focused on building the Talent Acquisition Center of Excellence. She currently manages about 80 recruiting team members (full-time and contract). Their mission is to attract exceptional healthcare professionals and develop strong talent communities in order to meet the staffing challenges of their organization and fulfill the healing mission of Dignity Health. KaTrina Rawlins, JD, Health Educator, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center KaTrina E. Rawlins is a Health Advocate and seeks to empower people with information to make positive lifestyle changes. She is passionate about improving health outcomes in under-served communities. She joined Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 2003. She currently is employed as a Health Educator at the MSK Ralph Lauren Center located in East Harlem. In her current role, she collaborates with several community-based organizations, social service organizations, and faith-based organizations throughout New York City to address the importance of early screening for cancer. She coordinates educational programs to link community members with access to health screenings and other relevant resources. Ms. Rawlins earned her BA in Political Science from Barnard College, Columbia University. She completed her JD with a concentration in 1)Affordable Housing and 2) Finance Transactions and Community Economic Development and LLM in Criminal Law at the University at Buffalo School of Law. In addition, she received an Executive Education Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership from Fordham University and a Civic Engagement and Leadership Development certificate from the CUNY School of Professional Studies.  She is a member of the New York and New Jersey State Bar. She is involved with numerous community and professional organizations including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
  Gillian Dean, MD, MPH, Senior Director of Medical Services, Planned Parenthood Federation of America Gillian Dean, MD, MPH (she/her) is the Senior Director of Medical Services at Planned Parenthood Federation of America, responsible for supporting Planned Parenthood affiliates nationwide in the delivery of high quality evidence-based health care. She provides clinical care and training at Planned Parenthood of Greater New York. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai where she founded and directed the Fellowship in Family Planning. She is the author of numerous peer-reviewed publications and online resources and frequently quoted in print and online media. Dr. Dean is a board certified obstetrician-gynecologist and a fellow of the Society of Family Planning and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Dr. Dean received her undergraduate degree in Women's Studies from Barnard College and her medical degree from Harvard Medical School. She completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California, San Francisco where she subsequently completed a Fellowship in Family Planning. She received an MPH in Health Policy and Management from Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health. Megan Cloidt, Dental Public Health Resident (Dentist), Jacobi Medical Center Dr. Megan Cloidt, DDS, MPH is a public health dentist currently working at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. She graduated from Barnard in 2013 with a BA in Neuroscience & Behavior. Following graduation, she worked at the New York State Psychiatric Institute as a laboratory technician in a neuroscience lab. She went on to attend Columbia University College of Dental Medicine and Mailman School of Public Health in a 5 year dual-degree DDS-MPH program and graduated in 2019. Her practicum project focused on the connections between edentulism (tooth loss), nutrition, and homelessness in Harlem. She completed a residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) at Columbia/New York Presbyterian Hospital in June 2020. In April of her residency year, she was deployed to NYP Hospital to help with the COVID crisis, which highlighted the importance of public health efforts. This experience influenced her to delve further into public health by engaging in a Dental Public Health residency at Jacobi Medical Center, which is where she is today. Dr. Cloidt spends her days conducting dental public health research, program planning for the dental residents, and clinical duties serving Jacobi's HIV+ population. Annie Frisse, OBGYN Fellow in Complex Family Planning, Mount Sinai After matriculating from Barnard College, Annie Frisse received her medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine where she served as Administrative Chief Resident. In residency she received several teaching awards and the Chair's Research Prize for her research on risk factors and outcomes of malpositioned intrauterine devices. She is currently a fellow in Complex Family Planning at Mount Sinai Hospital and is pursuing a Masters in Public Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Her research interests include contraception access, medical education in contraception and abortion, and teen sexual health.
