Job Opportunity: Medical Assistant


Institute Beaute is looking for a career-minded team player to work in a busy medical office on the Upper East Side. You will be responsible for the management of daily office operations to ensure outstanding customer service and patient care. This intimate office requires someone who can develop relationships with each of our patients to create a warm and inviting environment. Applicants who can commit to a minimum of 2 years are preferred. Opportunity to start as part-time and transition into full-time in May.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Greeting patients and providing necessary paperwork for completion
  • Obtaining current patient insurance and demographic information and ensuring the nformation is entered into EMR system
  • Verifying insurance coverage and speaking with insurance companies
  • Confidently handling busy phone lines and answering email correspondences
  • Scheduling/rescheduling patient appointments
  • Taking initiative to assist other staff with scanning, faxing, etc
  • Maintaining general knowledge of back-office protocols and assisting with training new medical assistants as necessary
  • Ordering supplies for the office
  • Managing social media for the office
  • Comply with HIPAA, OSHA and Red Flag Rules

Schedule:

EMT Course - Yeshiva University Summer 2020

This summer 2020, the Yeshiva University EMS club is organizing an emergency medical technician (EMT) program for undergraduate students. This summer we will be having two course options! Getting to network with passionate pre-health students from other universities in the NYC area will be a great experience, and the medical skills and clinical exposure will look great on any pre-health resume! 


June course:
5/26-6/16 Monday-Friday 9-5pm (Friday’s off at 3pm). 
No class 5/29.
state exam: 6/18 6pm

July course:
6/24-7/14 9-5pm
State exam: 7/16 6pm

The location for both courses will be located at the YU midtown campus located at 245 Lexington Avenue.

The cost of the course is $1,500

Minimum age is 17 by the state exam.

Personal Statement Workshop 2/19/20

All prospective applicants to health professions programs are welcome to attend Writing for Health Professions 2: Revision on Wednesday, February 19, 6:00 PM. In this interactive workshop, the second event in our Spring Writing Series, we’ll consider what happens once you’ve completed a draft of your personal statement. Learn techniques for evaluating and revising your statement, and consider how your statement will function within your application as a whole. Attendees should plan to bring a hard copy of their personal statement, whether a first draft or a draft that has undergone some revision already.

Year of Service Opportunity: Casa de Esperanza

Hands of Hope is Casa de Esperanza’s service year program which recruits recent college graduates and other highly qualified young adults from throughout the United States. These passionate individuals have a desire to help abused, neglected and HIV positive children through work with Casa de Esperanza. Hands of Hope Interns commit one year to live and work with these vulnerable children in the Residential Program’s agency foster homes. Responsibilities include daily care of the children, household management, and the coordination of medical appointments and therapy sessions. The Hands of Hope Interns also work with caseworkers, psychological staff and community volunteers on a routine basis to ensure that the children in placement receive the highest quality of care. The skills cultivated while participating in the Hands of Hope internship program are excellent life and work experiences for individuals pursuing careers in social work, medicine, psychology, education, public health, non-profit management, and social justice.

Qualifications
• At least 21 years old
• Willingness to make a one-year commitment (Shorter term commitments are considered on a case-by-case basis)
• College degree preferred
• Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others
• Flexibility and Patience
• Good general health, with a high energy level, and able to lift 35-40 pounds
• Valid Driver's License (Required to operate agency vehicles)

A criminal history, background check, and drug screening of each Hands of Hope Intern will be completed prior to placement with the agency.

Responsibilities
• To care for the children placed in your home
• To promote skills to develop healthy attachments
• To participate as a team member in implementing the children's Plan of Service and therapeutic regime
• To complete household duties including, but not limited to: cooking, cleaning, laundry and maintaining the house, and vehicles
• To transport and participate in medical and therapy appointments
• To support the children's primary attachment to biological parents
• To complete all necessary paperwork in a timely manner
• To communicate regularly with supervisors regarding the welfare of the children
• To complete 20 hours of ongoing training on an annual basis
• To follow the policies of Casa de Esperanza at all times

Job Opportunity: Research Assistant at UNC Chapel Hill - Psychology

A full-time research assistant position is available for individuals at the BA/BS level at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, beginning summer 2020.  The position will involve assisting/coordinating a federally-funded study of adolescent girls' depression, self-injury, and suicide.  The project involves the use of structured diagnostic assessment, questionnaire, observational, and EMA assessments, longitudinal methods, and physiological data collection integrating biological models of stress reactivity.  This position is for 2 years.  Research assistants will receive substantial training in developmental psychopathology theories and methods, participant recruitment; data management; supervision of undergraduate research assistants; general research administration; and assistance with the preparation of grants and manuscripts.  This position offers excellent experience for applications to doctoral programs in clinical or developmental psychology, as well as other mental health fields.

Applicants with some experience in psychology research are particularly encouraged to apply. A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or a related field is required. Information Session on Delirium Management Program - Mt. Sinai/St. Luke's

Delirium Program volunteers work with persons at risk of delirium, providing cognitive stimulation, and helping them recover or retain their orientation to their environment, and to increase their mobility. The Program's manager will speak with prehealth students about volunteer opportunities in this program tomorrow, February 12, 2020, 4:00 - 5:00 PM in Lewisohn Hall, Room 612.

Volunteer Opportunity: Crisis Counseling

CVTC, a not-for-profit organization committed to helping people heal from violent crime, seeks Volunteer Crisis Counselors.

Volunteer rape crisis and domestic violence advocates provide crisis counseling, emotional support and advocacy to survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence who seek treatment in the emergency departments of affiliate hospitals, which include Mount Sinai West, Mount Sinai St. Luke's, Brookdale Hospital and Lenox Health Greenwich Village. All it takes is a comprehensive 40-hour training (provided by CVTC), two 12-hour shifts per month, and a willingness to do a whole lot of good.

Please get in touch with CVTC if you're interested in taking the 2020 training, which will be held on the evening of October 15, and all day Oct 17, 18, 24, and 25.

To become an advocate, you must be:
  • over 18 years of age
  • able to reach Mount Sinai West, Mount Sinai St. Luke's, Lenox Health Greenwich Village and/or Brookdale Hospital within 20 minutes in a cab that we pay for
  • able to commit to being on-call for two 12-hour shifts per month and attending two continuing ed sessions per year
  • able to commit to the program for at least one year if accepted
  • able to attend all five training dates above
