Volunteer Opportunity: Global Brigades, CU Chapter

Global Brigades is a student-led sustainable organization, whose goal is to empower the underserved communities around the world. The students volunteer abroad to help improve the quality of life and the environment with the holistic approach. Global Brigades have different chapters like Medical, Dental, Public Health, Environmental, Water, Microfinance, and Business Brigades. In the past years, Columbia University chapter have helped development in Honduras, Panama and Ghana. We also volunteer in our local community, Harlem, helping conduct blood pressure at the health fairs and empower community members to take care fo their health!


The Columbia University's Global Brigades chapter is exciting to announce a tele-medical brigades during March 8th- March 13th in rural communities of Honduras. You can pay this donation yourself or fundraise to come up with the money from now until March. The initial donation of $150 is due on Friday, January 15th.

 It's a weekly live webinar about a high yield MCAT topic. It's short, sweet, and packed with valuable insight into both the topic at hand and how it's tested on the MCAT. Job Opportunity: Research Assistant, Center for OCD and Related Disorders

The Center for OCD and Related Disorders, directed by Dr. Blair Simpson, is seeking a full-time and a part-time Research Assistant. The Center for OCD and Related Disorders is part of the Anxiety Disorders Clinic at New York State Psychiatric Institute at Columbia University Medical Center. The mission of our center is to improve the lives of individuals with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and related problems, by advancing our understanding of and the treatment for these disorders. This position is ideal for someone interested in translating science into new treatments for patients with anxiety, OCD, and related disorders and who is considering applying to either medical or graduate school. Because of the training involved in this position, a two-year commitment is requested. The estimated date of hire is Summer (June - August) 2021. 

Research Assistants will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring clinical trials and biological research. The position will involve working on teams with both clinicians and scientists and will expose one to a wide range of research, while also providing in-depth experience with clinical populations. Duties may include patient recruitment and scheduling, patient screening, data collection and management, neurocognitive testing, brain imaging procedures, collecting, and processing biological samples, IRB procedures, grant applications, and/or manuscript preparation.
