Summer Opportunity: Camp Kesem Counselor

Applications to become a Kesem counselor are now open! Kesem is a national non-profit organization providing yearlong support and a week-long summer camp to children impacted by a parent’s cancer. To sustain their mission of serving such a large (and underserved) population, they are recruiting Columbia students to serve as student leaders and counselors for their upcoming camp session.

The commitment during the semester is extremely manageable (10-15 hours for fundraising and training), but the benefits are indescribable. By joining Kesem Columbia, you’ll make an immediate and transformative impact on the lives of children affected by a parent’s cancer - a population of more than 5 million. You’ll build friendships that will last for years. Members/alumni have gone on to careers in medicine, research, law and finance, and would be thrilled to mentor and/or provide guidance to their Kesem Columbia family. However, and perhaps most importantly, camp is FUN!

It doesn't matter your major or your background. If you care about the mission, they want your help to make the most magical week of camp possible this summer. They strive to build a team that reflects the diversity of the community we work in and encourage applications from traditionally underrepresented groups such as visible minorities, Indigenous peoples, and people identifying as LGBTQ+.

You can find more information about who they are, and how to join in the attached flyer. If you’re ready to sign up, you can fill out this interest form here: 2024 Counselor Application Step by Step- https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Wqsrl-p0Y9gmWQiischFd-a4Veqn_jj2LF-kGFcC7hA/edit
This year camp will be hosted from August 25th to August 30th. Apply by February 11th! See the google doc below for instructions on how to apply and the attached flyer for more information/how to get in touch with them. After you submit your application they will conduct interviews on a rolling basis (these are super chill! They just want to get to know you better).

Reach out to columbia@kesem.org if you have any questions!
