Job Opportunity: Clinical Assistant, Hudson Heights Pediatrics

Clinical Assistant in a Pediatrics Practice
Pediatric practice in upper Manhattan seeks graduating senior or recent graduate for full-time position starting in the Spring of 2022. Opportunity to start part-time before graduation. A fitting training ground for those interested in medicine, health care, or small business management. Hudson Heights Pediatrics is looking for someone interested in both the clinical and managerial aspects of medicine.

Our ideal candidate has:
● interest in the field of healthcare
● effective communication skills and is comfortable interacting both in-person and over the phone
● the desire to take initiative
● comfort multitasking, prioritizing, and dealing with several pressing matters at once
● sensitivity to the needs of patients, visitors and coworkers
● excellent organizational skills
● strong teamwork skills
● experience working with children

Responsibilities include:
● serving as clinical and administrative staff, including taking patient vitals, assisting with vaccines and bloodwork, performing point-of-care tests and other tasks to be assigned
● conducting intake and checkout and other reception duties
● discussing clinical cases with patients over the phone
● helping to manage the practice and doctor’s schedules
● reviewing and helping to implement and monitor Quality Incentive Programs
● assisting with billing and claim submission and follow up with insurance companies

This is a full-time position starting in spring 2022 and requiring 35-40 hours per week, including one Sunday per month. Spanish language skills are a plus. We work with an amazing team of doctors led by Dr. Joseph Richter who has been affiliated with Columbia Presbyterian Hospital for 22 years and founded the practice in 2009. Hudson Heights Pediatrics has been managed and staffed by Columbia and Barnard graduates since its opening. HHP staff alumni have since completed or are pursuing degrees in medical school, nurse practitioner programs (pediatric, midwifery and family medicine) and masters in public health administration.

Virtual Fair: Columbia University Medical School Fair

The 2022 Columbia Medical School Fair will be entirely virtual due the ongoing developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we very much look forward to bringing information about some of the top medical schools in the US to students wherever they may be. 

A total of seven events will take place between 11am and 1pm ET on the following dates. These weekend sessions will allow students to learn about a total of 24 top institutions and to hear from specialists on topics of importance in the school selection process.

Postbac Opportunity: MSK Bridge Program

Start your path to a PhD with MSK Bridge, a two-year post-baccalaureate research program for recent college graduates from historically underrepresented and underserved groups who intend to apply to biomedical PhD or MD-PhD programs upon completion of Bridge.

MSK BRIDGE PROVIDES:
• Research experience - immersion in biomedical research in cutting-edge laboratories at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), and an opportunity to give an oral presentation on your research project at the MSK Bridge symposium.
• Community - intensive mentoring from faculty, graduate students, and postdocs.
• Educational training - participation in the Gerstner Sloan Kettering Graduate School (GSK) cancer biology core course, professional development workshops and skills building classes, as well as research seminars and departmental talks.

Administrative Assistant for Direct Primary Care Medical Practice (HIV Prevention & Treatment
and Gay Men’s Health) in Greenwich Village, NYC

The Administrative Assistant is responsible for welcoming and providing incredible customer service to our patients, taking charge of extremely detailed and confidential administrative tasks, and assisting the doctor with the multifaceted challenges of the healthcare industry.

We are the first Direct Primary Care micropractice in NYC – where the primary focus is on the importance
of the doctor-patient relationship. You will work closely with the doctor in this small, friendly, human-centered medical practice. We specialize in HIV prevention & treatment and Gay Men’s health. The doctor has previously volunteered with Doctors Without Borders, and has teaching appointments at Columbia and NYU Medical schools. Dr. Vitt has been named a Top Doctor in NYC for the past six years in a row.

Full-time hours, Monday through Friday. This is not a part-time position.
Target start date is ideally May 1 through June 1 2022. The applicant will commit for approximately

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
● Provide incredible customer service to every patient
● Greet and welcome patients to the office
● Maintain absolute patient confidentiality and discretion in accordance with professional expectations as well as HIPAA policy
● Answer phone calls, emails, questions, etc. in a prompt and polite manner
● Manage patient scheduling, onboard new patients, and manage new patient inquiries
● Handle payments accurately and responsibly

● Assist patients with coordination of care and navigation of the healthcare bureaucracy

● Assist with website content and possibly small research/writing projects

Qualifications
● Interest in the healthcare/mental health professions (e.g. pre-med, post-bacc, pre-nursing, pre-PA, pre-therapist/psychology/social work, etc.)
● Interest in Gay Men’s Health and HIV Treatment and Prevention
● Recent undergraduate degree in any field
● Friendly and can-do attitude with patients and coworkers, and a great sense of humor
● Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
● Detail-oriented, a team player, and a flexible/adaptable nature to work in a continuously evolving environment
● Computer/IT proficiency
● Ability to speak Mandarin a plus, but not a requirement
● Follow COVID-19 infection control precautions
● Be immunized against standard communicable diseases (including but not limited to COVID-19 and Influenza) before starting the job
