Columbia University Global Mental Health Programs 2022 Summer Internship Program

Since 2016, the Columbia University Global Mental Health Programs have hosted a competitive summer internship for rising senior undergraduates interested in the growing field of global mental health. Students participating in the summer internship program will be exposed to a wide range of didactic seminars and experiential learning opportunities and will be mentored by 1-3 departmental faculty focused on various global mental health initiatives. Additionally, students will gain exposure to networking within the healthcare research environment and develop the skills to apply an equity-informed lens into global mental health research and implementation. The summer internship runs for 8 weeks (typically beginning in June), with students working 4 days a week with the Columbia Global Mental Health Programs.
The application for Summer 2022 is NOW OPEN and the deadline to apply is January 31, 2022, at 5pm EST.

At this time, we have decided that the 2022 summer internship will take place virtually with no requirement to travel to Columbia University. Any questions can be directed to info@cugmhp.org.

Unpaid Research Opportunity: NYU Langone Medical Center

 Research Assistant

I am a Barnard alumna who is Chief of Headache Research at NYU Langone Medical Center. I run several studies and am looking for Barnard students with a strong passion for clinical research. Applicants should be excellent team players but should also be able to work well independently. They must be professional and be able to show empathy. The position will be full time over the summer (some nights and weekends may be expected of you) and will continue into the academic year for a minimum of 6-8 hours a week. To date, I have had about 17 Barnard students work with me, and many have already published in the field with me. Pre-Covid, students had a unique opportunity working with physicians and with patients, and learning how the health system works. This past summer, even with Covid, students were able to work on meaningful research studies. The research is suited to those interested in neurology, psychiatry/psychology, and mHealth.

Please see these links for highlights of some prior students' work:

Full time over the summer with part-time extension into the year

Please send your CV, transcript, cover letter and a writing sample to Alexis.George@nyulangone.org and cc Mia.Minen@nyulangone.org.  Preferences will be given to students with some prior research and/or statistical experience.

Introduction to Undergraduate Research Workshop & Panel (Biology Dept)

The Department of Biological Sciences will once again host two events focused on introducing students to undergraduate research.

The first event, TOMORROW, November 30th at 12 pm, will be a virtual workshop led by Professor Jon Snow that will guide you through how to find and contact a principal investigator (PI) that you are interested in conducting research with. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who has no idea where to start or has questions on what to do when cold-emailing a potential mentor. Zoom details can be found in the image below.

The second event, on Wednesday, December 1st at 3 pm, will be a hybrid panel led by 6 current Barnard student panelists and a student moderator -- all of whom are currently conducting research as undergraduates. The panel will focus on Balancing Research While At Barnard. Info on our panelists and moderator can be found on the attached PDF. If you'd like to join by Zoom, no need to RSVP -- simply click on the Meeting ID to launch the Zoom url. If you'd like to be one of 30 guests invited to attend in person, RSVP HERE by no later than TOMORROW 11/30 at 6 pm to receive the room information. We'll have snacks to-go and you'll get a chance to meet our panelists in person. This is an excellent way to meet other majors if you are a prospective or recently declared biology major!

Recordings will be available by the next day. Any and all questions/requests for the recording(s) can be sent to Melissa Flores.
