Columbia University Pathways to Medicine Workshop Series: Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Sports Day Orthopedics

The Columbia PM&R series, in partnership with Columbia Orthopedics, is hosting an interdepartmental workshop tailored specifically for pre-medical students. This event will be held on September 8th, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Columbia University Vagelos Education Center, located at 104 Haven Ave, New York, NY 10032.

This workshop is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the key aspects of Orthopedics and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R). Throughout the day, there will be opportunities to explore common sports-related injuries and operations, gain insights into the types of injuries commonly seen in athletes, and learn about the surgical procedures used to treat them. 

In addition to the educational sessions, the workshop will conclude with a Q&A session where you can learn more about opportunities for shadowing, volunteering, and research.

Future Leaders in Surgery Symposium for Underrepresented Students (FLXSUS)

 The Future Leaders in Surgery Symposium for Underrepresented Students (FLXSUS) is a virtual series designed to bridge the gap between underrepresented undergraduates and surgical fields. Each symposium offers comprehensive exposure to specialties such as orthopedics, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, and plastic surgery.

High school and undergraduate students are highly encouraged to attend. Attendees will have access to extraordinary surgical cases, mentorship from attending faculty, residents, and medical students, and insights into groundbreaking research from renowned leaders. Participants will also receive a certificate and have the opportunity to connect with physicians and peers.

- Plastic Surgery: Oct. 12 (9-3:30 PM EST)
- ENT: Oct. 19 (9-3:30 PM EST)
- Neurosurgery: Oct. 26 (9-3:30 PM EST)

Fall 2024 Prehealth Overview Sessions

 Whether you're a new or returning student, if you're planning a career in health professions then Prehealth Overview Sessions are for you! These small-group, question & answer-driven sessions cover the basics of course planning, developing a portfolio of experiences, and anticipating important aspects of the application process. Attend an Overview before you schedule your first individual advising appointment! In Fall 2024, we'll meet at the following dates/times:

Tuesday, 10/8, 2:00 - 3:00 PM

Tuesday, 11/12, 4:00 - 5:00 PM
