Service Opportunity: CU Dance Marathon

Columbia University Dance Marathon is a student-run fundraising organization benefiting the pediatric patients of Cohen's Children's Hospital. Each year, we culminate towards a 4-hour philanthropic extravaganza of music, moves, and deliciousness attended by members of the Columbia community.

Health Professions Week, Nov. 14 - 19

Health Professions Week (HPW2020) is a fun, weeklong event designed to lead you along a path to a healthcare profession. There are different events during HPW – so you can choose what content matters to you. A lot of HPW is on-demand on YouTube, so come back to learn more when you have new questions.

FlexMed Online Info Sessions

The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) invites prospective applicants to their early acceptance program, FlexMed, to attend upcoming info sessions about the program. 

FlexMed is the first program of its kind in the nation, offering college sophomores from any major early acceptance. Students submit their application to FlexMed in the winter of their sophomore year of college and learn of acceptance to the ISMMS MD Program by the summer of that year. Once accepted, students will be free to pursue their area of study, unencumbered by the traditional science requirements and the MCAT.

What are the benefits of applying and being accepted into FlexMed?
All Majors Welcome!: You do not need to be a science major
Early Acceptance: end of your sophomore year in college
No MCAT: accepted students are not permitted to take the MCAT
Revised pre-med requirements: eliminating Organic Chemistry
Flexibility: “Flex” intellectual, creative, humanistic and scientific muscles
Academic Freedom: you will be free to pursue the area of study you want, unencumbered by the traditional pre-med science requirements
 
What are the eligibility requirements?
  • You must be a sophomore enrolled at an accredited 4-year US/Canadian College/University
  • You must have completed a year of one of the following three courses: one year of college Biology, one year of college Chemistry, or one year of college Physics by January 15th of the year you apply
  • You must have taken your SAT or ACT exams

For the AY’20-‘21 cycle the application is currently open and must be submitted by January 15, 2021.

Prehealth Overview on Thursday

New prehealth students (or students who are new to prehealth studies) are welcome to join in our next Prehealth Overview, this Thursday, October 22, 2:00 - 3:00 PM Eastern timeOverview sessions discuss academic preparation, portfolio development, letters of recommendation, Barnard’s Committee process, and advising resources. They are intended to provide space, in a small-group setting, for questions about the prehealth experience.  To RSVP, click here! Committee Process Overview - 10/28

Planning to apply for medical or dental school in summer 2021? Attend Beyond Barnard's Committee Process Overview to consider your application readiness and learn more about applying for a Committee letter. The workshop will take place on Wednesday, October 28, 6:00 - 7:00 PM Eastern, and will feature a presentation as well as time for Q&A.

Cambridge Coaching MCAT Webinar: Free Body Diagrams

 It's a weekly live webinar about a high yield MCAT topic. It's short, sweet, and packed with valuable insight into both the topic at hand and how it's tested on the MCAT. While we are in the process of developing these materials, we are offering the webinar for free. Consider yourself a pilot student for a future Cambridge Coaching MCAT course, or textbook, or self-study platform (only the future can tell). All we ask in exchange is that you keep coming, participate in Q & A, share your feedback, and let friends know about this resource.
