CUEMS Sponsorship for EMT Course

 Interested in becoming certified as an EMT for FREE?

Each semester, CUEMS sponsors several Columbia and Barnard students to complete an EMT course taught by a local NYC training organization.


Mandatory info sessions for sponsorship will be in Hamilton 702 on April 5th and 6th from 2030-2100 (8:30pm-9:00pm). Please be on time! Doors shut at 8:30pm sharp.


CUEMS sponsorship is separate from the CUEMS membership application. Sponsored students take the EMT course at a reduced cost, but are not guaranteed membership in the corps. Upon course completion, all EMTs interested in joining CUEMS must attend an interview during our semesterly application cycles.

Pre-Medical Opportunities for American Indian and Alaska Native Learners

 2022 RISE Summer Academy

The RISE Summer Academy application is now open! The Summer Academy is intended for American Indians and Alaska Natives (AIAN) who are preparing for the medical school application process.

Deadline to apply: April 15, 2022 by 5:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

Applications are beginning to come in and there are only 20 spots to fill - apply now!

2022 AIAN Medical School Application Workshop

The Northwest Native American Center of Excellence is excited to announce the 2022 American Indian/Alaska Native Medical School Application Workshop in collaboration with Oregon Health and Sciences University, Washington State University, University of Washington, and U.C. Davis School of Medicine. The workshop will be held virtually on Friday, May 6th, 2022.

This workshop will comprehensively review the medical school admissions process, including: 1) practical tips for writing your personal statement and a 1:1 live feedback session, 2) requesting letters of recommendation, 3) mock medical school interviews in MMI and traditional formats, and 4) helpful tips for navigating the application process.

2022 Wy'east Post-Bac Program (conditional acceptance to OHSU, UC Davis SOM, or WSU COM)

The Wy’east Pathway is a FREE 10-month post-baccalaureate Pathway for AIAN learners who are passionate about becoming doctors and are on the brink of going to medical school. The goal is to prepare learners for the rigors of medical school and to provide cultural support and mentorship. The Pathway takes place at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, OR. Event: Prehealth Overview Session 3/31

 Prehealth students are expected to attend an overview session prior to scheduling individual advising appointments. Overview sessions discuss academic preparation, portfolio development, letters of recommendation, Barnard’s Committee process, and advising resources. They are intended to provide space, in a small-group setting, for discussing the prehealth experience, so please bring your questions!

Columbia University Med School Fair: Additional Panels on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Financing Your Medical Education

On Saturday, April 2nd, Columbia University will be hosting a panel discussion on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Medical Education and Care. Students can register for this event here.
