The Interventional Pain Management Office of Dr. Mathew Lefkowitz, MD, is looking for motivated and hard-working medical assistants. This position is an excellent opportunity to learn about and participate in all aspects of clinical medicine. 
 
Job Description:
In this full-time job, you will work directly with the doctor, a group of medical assistants, administrative staff, and patients. On the patient-facing side, assistants learn to take an accurate and thorough history, assess vital signs, and assist with various interventional pain management procedures. By interacting directly with patients, assistants learn about anatomy, symptomatology, and pharmacology as related to pain medicine and management. On the administrative side, assistants learn to organize patient appointments, assist with chart notes, liaison with other doctors and healthcare professionals, and help manage varied facets of insurances. Assistants also become familiar with the electronic health system and how technology integrates with patient-care. In this fast-paced, hands-on work environment, assistants cultivate the skills to work effectively in a group, communicate effectively with patients, and clinically treat disease.
 
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree and the successful completion of premedical coursework or a post-baccalaureate premedical program
- Intention to matriculate into medical school 
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
- Must be vaccinated before flu season
- Spanish speakers and NYC locals will be prioritized

EMT Course: Yeshiva University, Fall 2020

This Fall 2020, the Yeshiva University EMS club is organizing an emergency medical technician (EMT) program for undergraduate students. Getting to network with passionate pre-health students will be a great experience, and the medical skills and clinical exposure will look great on any pre-health resume!  In addition, due to the recent COVID-19 crisis, the need for EMT's during this time is great.

Fall 2020 course:
8/30/20-12/27/20 via Zoom and LMS
NO CLASS ON: 9/20, 9/27, 10/4
*Lectures and Exams Online. 4 days for skills pending Covid-19 clearance*
State exam: online/proctoring center

*Location will be at the YU midtown campus located at 245 Lexington Avenue*

*Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, the dates for these courses are subject to change*

Price: $1,500

Minimum age is 17 by the state exam.

Barnard Biology Dept. Event Series: Academic Planning for STEM Coursework

Barnard's Biology Department will be hosting a week long of events from July 21st to 24th, all of which will be recorded if a student has a conflict at the event time. On Tues, the 21st at 3 pm EST the first meeting will be geared towards prospective majors/minors and anyone who needs to take the introductory sequence + genetics. Wednesday's 4 pm session will focus on upper-level lectures and labs, research, and senior capstone courses. Thursday's 3 pm session will be a general Q&A for the first hour, followed by a discussion on using Biology courses to fulfill pre-med/grad school requirements at 4pm. The Friday 3pm session will be a general Q&A for an hour.

Students interested in attending can RSVP by emailing Melissa Flores (mflores@barnard.edu) to request the link(s).  Please indicate which session(s) you are interested in attending in your message. The department welcomes questions in advance of the sessions so they are adequately prepared. The department will provide program planning packets on their Major Advising page by next Friday, July 17th. They encourage students to keep checking the CU Directory of Classes for the most up to date fall 2020 course information, in addition to their AY20-21 Course Offerings page which lists Biology courses for fall, spring, and summer. This page has the most up to date information (the rest of the website is in progress!).
