Gap Year Opportunity: Pediatrics Clinical Assistant

Hudson Heights Pediatrics, PC, located in upper Manhattan, seeks a graduating senior or recent graduate for a full-time clinical assistant position. This is a fitting training ground for those interested in medicine, health care, or small business management. Hudson Heights Pediatrics is looking for someone interested in both clinical and managerial aspects of medicine.

The ideal candidate has:
● interest in the field of healthcare
● effective communication skills and is comfortable interacting both in-person and over the phone
● the desire to take initiative
● comfort multitasking, prioritizing, and dealing with several pressing matters at once
● sensitivity to the needs of patients, visitors and coworkers

Responsibilities include:

● serving as clinical and administrative staff, including taking patient vitals, assisting with vaccines, intake and checkout and other reception duties

● discussing clinical cases with patients over the phone

● helping to manage Dr. Richter’s schedule

● managing Dr. Richter’s medical and insurance certifications

● liaising with Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and maintaining other professional relationships

● communicating requests to other staff members

This is a full-time position starting spring 2019 and requiring 35-40 hours per week, including one Sunday per month. Spanish language skills are a plus. We work with an amazing team of doctors led by Dr. Joseph Richter who has been affiliated with Columbia Presbyterian Hospital for 20 years and founded the practice in 2009.  Hudson Heights Pediatrics has been managed and staffed by Columbia and Barnard graduates since its opening.

UC Berkeley Opto-Camp

Applications are due soon for Opto-Camp: UC Berkeley's Optometry Summer Camp, taking place July 15-19, 2019. 

This in-residence, 5-day program will give students interested in pursuing graduate studies and a career in optometry:

• an in-depth look at the profession, 
• key information about applying to OD programs, and 
• an immersive experience on the Berkeley campus.

Opto-Camp is open to all, with priority given to students currently enrolled in undergraduate studies.

NYU Spine Research Fellow Positions

The Spine Research Center of NYU Langone Health, Directed by Dr. Aaron Buckland, is accepting applications for paid research fellow positions during the 2019-2020 academic year. This is a 1-year funded research opportunity beginning June/July 1st. The lab wishes to interview hard working pre-medical/medical students who thrive in a sociable and talented team environment.

Fellows gain experience in clinical research under the direction of the NYU spine faculty.  Fellows will attain familiarity and understanding of the research process from protocol to publication, developing a wide range of skills applicable to medical innovation and practice.  Research related spine topics include the practical experiences of spine surgical faculty as well as national databases which individual faculty members participate.  Expertise is developed in the use of clinical imaging tools, data analysis, manuscript writing and journal submission.

The fellow can expect to have 2 or more peer reviewed publications by the end of the research year, abstract acceptances at major spine conferences and opportunities to present research at spine conferences. This will undoubtedly bolster and enhance competitiveness for a position in medicine. This is an active and productive research program with numerous presentations at national and international meetings.

We are a high-output, streamlined research lab with many abstract and publication acceptances every year to the top conferences and spine journals in the country. There are many active ongoing projects including clinical prospective studies, retrospective reviews, meta-analyses, basic science, and opportunities to present your own ideas. As a research fellow, you’ll be part of an amazingly fun and intelligent group of engineers, physicians, medical students, fellows and pre-med college grads.

Job Opportunity: Psychopathology Research Assistant at Brown University

The Centers for Behavioral and Preventive Medicine at The Miriam Hospital, a Brown University teaching hospital, is seeking a full-time research assistant for a laboratory focused on studying psychopathology and substance use during adolescence and emerging adulthood.

Overview:

The research assistant will work in a research context performing face-to-face interviews, administering laboratory based executive functioning batteries, conducting in-vivo stress paradigms, handling biological specimens (e.g., saliva), managing a smart-phone based study application, assisting with study logistics (e.g., participant recruitment procedures), and data management/analyses.

This is a full-time research position. The study involves the systematic pairing of experimentally-controlled human laboratory paradigms with intensive longitudinal methods to study pathways leading to co-occurring psychopathology (e.g., depression) and substance use (e.g., nicotine, cannabis, alcohol) in the laboratory of Dr. Chrystal Vergara-Lopez (https://vivo.brown.edu/display/cvergara).

Skills/Qualifications:

1.    BA, BS, or Master’s degree in psychology, public health, or related sciences.

5.    Experience in data management.

6.    Familiarity in psychological research methods (through coursework and/or experience) is preferred, but not required.

7.    Research experience, background in statistics/R and REDCap programming is an asset.

8.    Willingness to learn R statistical programing language.

9.    Ability to commit to the laboratory for a minimum of 2 years.

Dr. Vergara-Lopez is committed to mentorship for highly motivated research assistants.
