Job Opportunity - Weill Cornell Cardiac MRI Program Research Assistant

Research assistant sought for the Weill Cornell Medical College Cardiac Imaging program. Responsibilities entail the coordination of active NIH and foundational research protocols, focused on cardiac imaging and outcomes research, as well as technical studies focused on the development of new imaging technologies. The research assistant/coordinator will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of physicians and biomedical engineers, and assume key responsibilities for daily aspects of patient enrollment and coordination, data archival/compilation and analysis, and institutional administrative and compliance issues (e.g. IRB, budgeting). Myriad opportunities would be available for learning about cardiology and imaging, including attendance at clinical conferences, shadowing opportunities, and co-authorship on both abstracts and manuscripts. The position entails a broad array of clinical exposures (ideal for expanding pre-medical knowledge base).

Employment start date: May/June full-time 2020 (slight flexibility in start if needed); 1-2 year positions available.

Individuals with scientific background and/or interest in a long-term medical research career are preferred, but not required. Minimum one-year commitment.

Register for Application Year Overview Sessions Next Week

Prospective applicants to medical and dental schools are welcome to attend our Application Year Overview: Part I, offered in two sessions next week:

Application Year Overview: Part I (in-person) | Monday, November 18 at 6:00 PM

Application Year Overview: Part II (live webinar) | Tuesday, November 19 at 6:00 PM

These sessions will cover the same information, so you need only plan to attend one (and the webinar will be recorded, in case anyone has conflicts with both times). We’ll cover two main topics: 1) assessing your readiness to apply to professional programs and 2) how to apply for a Committee Letter of Evaluation. These sessions are especially relevant for any prospective applicants to medical or dental school who plan to submit their professional school applications in summer 2020.

Please note that we'll begin the Committee application later this semester, as we are transitioning away from AdviseStream/Inspire to use a new application system.

Columbia Synapse Event 11/8/19

Columbia University Synapse hosts experts in neuroscience and medicine whose research focuses on the science and treatment of brain injury and recovery. In a panel-style discussion, Dr. Steven G. Kernie, Dr. Lauren Oberlin, and Dr. James M. Noble share their research and clinical experiences related to brain injury and, specifically, to concussions. They address the brain’s remarkable ability to repair itself and how this can be facilitated by interventional measures.

EMT Course - Yeshiva University Spring 2020

This spring 2020, the Yeshiva University EMS club is organizing an emergency medical technician (EMT) program for undergraduate students. This semester we will be having two course options! 

Course 1: (Accelerated Course)

15 Sundays, from 10 am - 6 pm 

8 hours each session

Start Date: January 26th

Location: YU midtown campus located at 245 Lexington Avenue

Course 2: (Regular Course)

24 Sundays, from 1:30 pm - 6:30 pm

5 hour each session

Start Date: Either Beginning of December or January 26th.

Location: YU uptown campus located at 500 W 185th street

The cost of the course is $1,500. (If finances are an issue, there are many volunteer ambulance/fire organizations that will pay for your course in return for becoming an active member! Seek out your local agencies for more details. In addition, the NYS Department of Health can issue a ~700$ voucher through a NY volunteer ambulance/fire organization to help pay for the course!)

Minimum age is 17 by the state exam.

With previous courses run in the past, we have found the accelerated course to be in high demand. However, there are many students that either have class or other obligations on Sunday mornings which would unfortunately prevent them from enrolling in our program. Therefore, we have decided to adapt our program to meet the needs of both types of students.

There will be no classes on Jewish holidays.

The Veterinary Medical Profession: A Panel Discussion

On Friday, November 22, 6:00 PM, students are invited to join panelists working in different areas of veterinary medicine for a discussion of how they chose and followed their varied career paths. The event will open with a presentation of the requirements and processes for applying to veterinary school led by Jennifer Mailey, Director of Admissions at Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine. This event will take place at Hamilton Hall, Room 602.
