Info Session: Summer 2021 Health Internships at Columbia University Medical Center

The Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs at Columbia University's Vagelos College of Physician and Surgeons hosts several summer health programs for undergraduate college students. We will be hosting a virtual information session on Friday, December 4th at 2pm.​ Students from all majors who are interested in pursuing any health related careers are highly encouraged to join. During the session, we will review the following summer programs:

• Summer Public Health Scholars Program (SPHSP)  
• Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP)  
• Northeast Regional Alliance MedPrep HCOP Academy (NERA MedPrep)

QSURE Summer Internship Program at Memorial Sloan Kettering

 The Quantitative Sciences Undergraduate Research Experience (QSURE) internship program is designed for motivated undergraduate students with a passion for quantitative science. Each student will be paired with an expert mentor to work on an individual, data-driven research project that aims to answer pressing questions in cancer. The program will provide hands-on skills in biostatistics, epidemiology, health outcomes, and/or computational oncology.

Cambridge Coaching MCAT Webinar: Memory for the MCAT

It's a weekly live webinar about a high yield MCAT topic. It's short, sweet, and packed with valuable insight into both the topic at hand and how it's tested on the MCAT. While we are in the process of developing these materials, we are offering the webinar for free. Consider yourself a pilot student for a future Cambridge Coaching MCAT course, or textbook, or self-study platform (only the future can tell). All we ask in exchange is that you keep coming, participate in Q & A, share your feedback, and let friends know about this resource. Georgetown SMP Info Session - December 2

Georgetown University Medical Center's Prehealth Master's in Physiology program will host an information session for prospective applicants on December 2, 2020.

Georgetown welcomes applications from:

• gap year students who want to challenge themselves with a rigorous curriculum to prepare for the transition to medical school
• students who want to improve their academic record before applying to medical school
• students who have been unsuccessful in a previous admissions cycle for medical school

Nightline Panel: Increasing Awareness, Erasing Stigmas

Join Columbia Nightline for a panel discussion on Tuesday, November 17, 8:00 PM. This panel will be composed of psychological professionals and nightline alumni who will speak about their own relationship with mental health, their journey in college, career plans for the future and/or current profession. The goal of this panel is to raise awareness about mental health on campus, inform students of current resources, and promote a career in the psychological field.

We are also hoping to increase awareness about Nightline Peer Listening as a resource for students. Especially during COVID, it is very important to raise attention about this student peer listening service as a valuable resource for students. Nightline Peer Listening is an anonymous undergraduate peer support listening service to reflect, provide support and listen as well as to refer you to helpful resources on and off campus. Job Opportunity: Medical Scribe in Rheumatology Practice

Dr. Jill Ritter is seeking a highly motivated candidate who would like firsthand experience in the fast-paced environment of a solo rheumatology practice in Livingston, NJ. This is a great opportunity for a pre-med/pre-PA student seeking additional clinical exposure before graduate school. In addition, the candidate will receive one-on-one mentoring from Dr. Ritter. She is specifically looking for a candidate to start in December of 2020, so this position would be perfect for students planning on graduating early. 

The position includes the opportunity to work directly with patients. Tasks will include medical scribing, triaging patient phone calls, learning medical terminology, taking vital signs, and overall day-to-day office management. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required. Prior clinical exposure is a plus. The ideal candidate will also be an enthusiastic, friendly, self-motivated team player who will hit the ground running.

Service Opportunity: Casa de Esperanza Year of Service

Casa de Esperanza provides residential care to children birth through six years old who are in crisis due to abuse, neglect, or the effects of HIV.  Care is provided in our residential neighborhood by our Hands of Hope House Parents.  Our House Parents, most of whom are recent college graduates, join us for a year of service-- a twelve-month full-time post-graduation service year.  Applicants wishing to complete shorter service are considered on a case by case basis.  We provide on-site housing (House Parents live with the children they are caring for) and House Parents join us from all over the United States to be part of our internship program.
