Opportunity: Join Health Leads! Information Session on 3/9!

Health Leads is a national nonprofit dedicated to breaking the link between poverty and poor health. Health Leads volunteers act as patient advocates at Harlem Hospital to help connect patients with resources such as child care, food stamps, and legal assistance to address non-medical needs that impact their health.

For many children and families, medical care alone isn't enough to ensure good health. No medication will control children's asthma if they live in substandard housing. No antibiotics will reverse the effects of chronic hunger on a child's development. The failure of our healthcare system to address these basic needs perpetuates health disparities.

Our volunteers achieve real results for families and demonstrate how we can build a health care system that promotes health, rather than just manages disease. Volunteers make a 6-8 hour/week commitment to Health Leads. On average, you will spend 1 hour at a weekly meeting on campus, 3 hours at the clinic, and 1-2 hours doing independent casework. We ask that volunteers commit at least two semesters to Health Leads.

We are currently recruiting for the Summer and Fall! We are hosting information sessions in the Schapiro Residence Lounge on Thursday, March 9th at 4:30pm and in Hamilton 304 on Monday, March 20th at 8pm. Our online application (https://healthleadsusa.org/get-involved/volunteer/) is due Wednesday, March 22nd at 11:59PM.
