NYU Winthrop Hospital Radiation Oncology Research Internship
NYU Winthrop Hospital’s Radiation Oncology Department is offering an exciting opportunity
to students who are interested in gaining research experience in the medical field. Over the
years our department has provided excellent care to a vast amount of patients enabling us to
contribute to research and publish in multiple impactful journals. Currently, our department is
looking to expand on one of our existing databases, with a primary focus on prostate cancer.
Our research team is looking to onboard a group of students, whose research experience levels
vary from beginner to advanced. Students will have the opportunity to observe how data is
collected through patient charts (paper and electronic records) and transferred into our databases.
With the instruction from the Research Coordinator and the Database Manager, students will learn
to perform data collection and data management independently. Depending on the student’s
experience level and motivation, they will be also able to partake in data analysis and abstract
writing portions of existing and new research projects. Ideal students will bring with them some
research experience (lab work, course work, previous internships), however this is not a
requirement. We are happy to consider students who are ready to tackle our data using
SPSS/R/Python as much as students who will be assisting us with data entry. While we believe
that students who are in a Pre-Med track would benefit most from this opportunity, we will
accept students from all science backgrounds. In addition to being an innovative field that
employs cutting-edge medical technology to treatments, Radiation Oncology also has a major
physics component (dosimetry). Hence, students concentrating on math/statistics, social science
(with research emphasis), computer science, biology/chemistry/physics would benefit
immensely from this experience.

Requirements:
- Rising Junior or Senior college student, med student or graduate student
- Has GPA > 3.0
- Has a flexible schedule, and is responsible and punctual
- Can work in a team, as well as independently
- Motivated, and passionate about research and/or medicine
- Successfully interviews with key members of our staff for the position
- Devotes 4-5 hours/day, 2-3 days/week, for 8-weeks, over the course of summer 2019

Gap Year Opportunity: NYU Langone Endocrinology Research
Dr. Ira Goldberg is seeking a recent graduate to work in his basic science laboratory as a research technician and editor. The Goldberg Lab focuses on abnormalities of lipoprotein metabolism, macrovascular disease in diabetes, and the role of triglycerides in atherosclerosis.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF-USA) is pleased to announce its paid Internship Program. Interns gain practical work experience and support the work of the Communications, Development, Program, Human Resources (both for the field and the office), and Executive departments. Interns also gain a basic introduction to the field of international medical humanitarian aid and advocacy. Position Description: Dr. Meredith Hawkins, Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein
College of Medicine and Director of the Einstein Global Diabetes Institute, is
currently seeking a new research trainee to begin in the early summer (mid May
or early June). For the past several years this role has been occupied by
pre-medical students who have all successfully matriculated to medical school.
Dr. Hawkins would like to again hire a highly qualified pre-health or allied
health student who is taking either one or two years off before attending
medical or graduate school.
The research trainee
will play a vital role in the development of current and new research
protocols. The ideal candidate should have a strong research background, work
well with others, and be a highly motivated self-starter. This is a full-time
(Monday through Friday, 9AM-5PM) paid position. The research
trainee will work very closely with the research team and will gain valuable
insight into how clinical research is conducted. They will also gain a strong
understanding of the biology and medicine behind the research. Moreover, this individual will have an important role in organizing
and supporting multiple functions of the Global Diabetes Institute, from
working on diabetes-related clinical science research projects, to maintaining
effective communication with collaborating investigators in the US and
globally. Dr. Hawkins is currently collaborating with researchers and health
workers abroad in both India and Uganda. For the past
several years this role has been occupied by pre-medical students who have all successfully
matriculated to medical school.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with recruitment of research participants for
clinical research trials and activities related to diabetes
- Assist with writing research documents including
presentations, manuscripts, grant proposals, and journal articles
- Conduct data analysis for existing research studies
- Keep study specifics and methods up to date for each research
protocol
- Support Global Diabetes Institute team members in developing programs (including scheduling, travel, expenses, fund-raising)
Skills:
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Effective time and resource management
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Develops effective relationships with research
participants, faculty, and staff
- Significant experience with Microsoft Office Word and Excel, as well as reference software (e.g., EndNote, RefWorks, etc.)
