Job Opportunity: Research Assistant, NYU Langone Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism

The Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism, is looking for a part-time or full-time research technician. In this role, the candidate would be responsible for performing laboratory experiments under direct supervision. The successful applicant must be highly motivated and passionate about research, have good communication skills, keep highly-organized records, and work efficiently and collaboratively as part of our team. This position is ideal for premedical students looking to take one or two years off before starting medical school or graduate school. The individual will have the opportunity to learn valuable laboratory techniques, attend both basic science and clinical seminars.

 Responsibilities:
The research technician will be primarily responsible for the following activities:
  • Basic lab duties under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision.
  • Performs routine technical tasks, and assists in the general maintenance of the lab, such as prepare stock reagents and solutions and maintaining lab databases.
  • General techniques in standard molecular biology techniques like DNA and RNA isolation, regular PCR, realtime PCR, western blotting, ELISA.
  • Lipid assays, Tissue sectioning, immunofluorescent staining and imaging.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
   
Details:
We are looking for candidates who possess at least a bachelor’s degree and are able to work independently and as part of a team. This is a paid position. Ideal start date is August 2020, but flexible.

Note: If you were enrolled in the ThinkMCAT course last semester (Spring 2019) you do not have to pay for this course; you will be automatically enrolled.

Online Panel: Applying To Dual Degree Programs During a Pandemic

Post-Baccalaureate Research Position

Drs. Lea Dougherty (University of Maryland College Park) and Jillian Wiggins (San Diego State University) and the Translational Emotion Neuroscience and Development Lab (https://tendlab.sdsu.edu/) in the Department of Psychology at San Diego State University (SDSU) in San Diego, CA is seeking to hire (pending funding approval) a full-time post-baccalaureate research assistant for an NIMH-funded research project examining neural mechanisms of risk and resilience in early childhood irritability. We use functional and structural MRI methods, observational laboratory-based measures, and clinical diagnostic interviews.

 Successful candidates should have keen attention to detail; ability to work professionally with parents and children; and strong organization, problem solving, and analytic skills. Prior background in psychology, development, or neuroscience is also a plus but not required. We seek a post-bac who is motivated and ambitious, who is prepared for a hands-on research experience including the use of new tasks and techniques. Responsibilities will include: (1) conducting experiments in young children (behavioral and MRI data collection); (2) training and supervising undergraduate students; (3) contributing to administrative duties of the lab; and (4) assisting with research protocols and compliance.

The position will start in September 2020. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled. This is a one-year position renewable contingent on performance and funding. Job Opportunity: Study Coordinator for Eating Disorder Research


Dr. Levinson, the Director of the Eating Anxiety Treatment (EAT) lab at the University of Louisville, is hiring a full time study coordinator to work on a National Institute of Mental Health supported study examining how eating disorder symptoms and physiology across time predict relapse and recovery. As part of this work, we are developing a multidisciplinary program with the engineering department and there will be many opportunities for cross-collaboration with our engineering colleagues. This position will involve working with clinical participants with eating disorders, running the day to day aspects of this study, working on grant proposals and publications, assisting with data preparation, assisting with institutional review board protocols, and working with a large interdisciplinary team both at UofL and with cross-site collaborators. The study coordinator will work very closely with Dr. Levinson on a day to day basis. 


Opportunities for involvement in publications and presentations at national conferences are plentiful. Minimum experience is a bachelors’ degree in either psychology, engineering, computer science or a related field. Research experience is a must. This position is ideal for someone wanting to go to graduate school in a health related field. This position is renewable for up to three years and preference will be given to a postbac who can commit to at least two years.

Job Opportunity: Study Coordinator

RESEARCH COORDINATOR position expected in the Psychiatry Department at the University of Michigan to work on the Neural Mechanisms of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder PTSD) Project (Dr. Anthony King, PhD Principal Investigator). The MBCT for PTSD project is a NIMH R61/R33 funded intervention study. The project tests how two different Mind-Body Therapies: MBCT & Progressive Muscular Relaxation (PMR) affect brain activity when used in the treatment of PTSD. We aim to recruit a diverse sample of females (with histories of interpersonal-trauma) and males (with histories of combat related-trauma) both in terms of SES and race/ethnicity.

The Research Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the project. They will be responsible for recruitment and scheduling of participants, managing undergraduate research assistants, preparation of IRB materials, data collection and maintaining study databases. There may also be opportunities to receive training on the administration of group interventions and formal clinical assessments with participants including diagnostic interviews.

Candidates should have a master's degree (preferred) or bachelor’s degree in Psychology or a related field and have related research experience. Competitive candidates will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills, and a proven ability to work independently. Job Opportunity: Research Coordinator, Psychology

RESEARCH COORDINATOR position is available in the Psychology Department and School of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University to work on the NU site of the Mindfulness in Adolescence Project (Drs. Emma Adam and Richard Zinbarg, Principal Investigators at NU).  The Mindfulness in Adolescence Project is a NIMH R61/R33 funded prevention study (the second site is UCLA, Drs. Michelle Craske and Denise Chavira, Principal Investigators at UCLA; the third site is Vanderbilt University, Judy Garber, Principal Investigator).  The project tests the efficacy of an app-based mindfulness intervention that specifically targets skills for regulating negative affect in order to prevent anxiety, depression, and associated impairment in at-risk adolescents ages 12 to 16.  We aim to recruit a diverse sample of youth both in terms of SES and race/ethnicity.

The Research Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the project.  They will be responsible for recruitment and scheduling of participants, liasoning with schools, preparation of IRB materials, data collection and maintaining study databases.  There may also be opportunities to receive training on the administration of and to conduct formal assessments with participants including diagnostic interviews.
