COVID-19 Education Empowerment Program

The COVID-19 Community Education Empowerment Program, a collaboration of New York City medical schools, will recruit underrepresented in medicine, first generation, and disadvantaged college and gap year students interested in medical and health careers to learn about COVID-19 and disparities, vaccine science, the roles of medicine and public health, and strategies for community education and empowerment.

Curriculum will include:

  • Virology and Pandemics
  • COVID Biology and Prevention
  • COVID 19, Disparities and Ripple Effects
  • Effects of COVID
  • How the Immune System Works
  • How Vaccines Work
  • COVID 19 Vaccine
  • Vaccine Hesitancy
  • Communication with Role Playing
  • Reliable Resources/Public Health and Access
  • Capstone Presentation

The program will admit two cohorts of participants, meeting on Saturdays between March and May, 2021, 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM:

  • Cohort 1: 3/27, 4/11, 4/17, 4/24
  • Cohort 2: 5/1, 5/8, 5/15, 5/22
